How can advertisers pop out with virtual reality?

One of the most groundbreaking movements in technology right now is the rapid rise of virtual reality—a seemingly retro development considering how VR was a flashy trend during the 1980s. With Facebook’s pricey purchase of Oculus and Google’s launch of Cardboard (literally a VR headset made with cardboard), the field is ripe for being pushed into the mainstream. However, how will advertisers fit in? Most likely, they will fit in like they always have—by sponsoring content and harnessing this new entertainment medium. This intersection was the topic of the breakout panel “Blending the Physical/Digital Divide: Augmented and Virtual Reality in Advertising Campaigns” at the ad:tech conference this year in San Francisco.
