While most of the Atlanta Falcons fans left the Georgia Dome in a somber mood after the Falcons blew a first half lead in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, two rival fans who crossed paths got into an violent fight that resulted in a stabbing incident outside Gate D.
The fight broke out after a San Francisco 49ers fan walked past an Atlanta Falcons fan who was clearly upset after his team’s loss. The two exchanged words after which things got heated up and the Atlanta Falcons fan punched the other. The San Francisco 49ers fan responded by pulling out a knife.
A violent scuffle broke out which resulted in one of the fan taking the knife to the other’s throat. Initial reports do not state which fan got stabbed in the neck. Eye witnesses claim that pepper spray was also involved in the altercation.
WSB-TV reporter Rachel Stockman covered the story from the spot and obtained a fan video that shows someone in the crowd being treated by paramedics, with police reportedly surrounding the area.
The stabbed fan was immediately transported to a local hospital in an ambulance. The injured fan’s condition has been not disclosed as of yet.
The ugly stabbing incident eclipses what was a classic playoff game featuring a remarkable comeback from the San Francisco 49ers, who rallied to beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24, by keeping them scoreless throughout the second half of the NFC Championship game after a hot start on Sunday.
The San Francisco 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl for the first time in 18 years following Sunday’s win. There the San Francisco 49ers await the NFC Championship game victors. The NFC title game is ongoing Sunday between the NFC rivals New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens.
