A Penguin flies West
Kings add Stanley Cup-winning defenseman Scuderi
Thursday, 07.02.2009 / 4:34 PM / 2009 NHL Offseason News
NHL.com
Rob Scuderi became the latest defenseman to take his Stanley Cup ring and move along to a new challenge, as the Los Angeles Kings agreed Thursday to a four-year contract with the 30-year-old veteran. Terms are undisclosed.

Scuderi has played 300 regular-season and 49 playoff games in his career, all with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He collected one goal and 15 assists in 81 regular-season games and one goal and four assists in 24 postseason games this past season as the Penguins beat the Detroit Red Wings in seven games for their first Stanley Cup in 17 years.

Hal Gill, a shutdown defender for the Penguins in the same mold as Scuderi, signed a two-year deal with Montreal on Wednesday, the first day of the free-agent signing

not good news for the Penguins from what it sounds - looks like they have now lost two great players.

Good to have him, but the Kings still need scoring.
