A-11 football offense deemed illegal and "unsportsmanlike"
Shed a tear, everyone. A bunch of uncreative cranks have made the awesomely bizarre A-11 football offense illegal.

The A-11 offense, which was just a ridiculously bizarre (and cool) offense, is no more.

So what was it? It was 11 players wearing eligible receiving numbers on the field at once -- only legal with one player at least seven yards behind the line of scrimmage and no one under center, as on a punt or field goal -- then shifting them on or off the line of scrimmage at the last second.

I'm even more upset that they deemed it to be "unsportsmanlike." How is it unsportsmanlike to push the limits of the playbook? What lazy jackasses. At least give a better reason than unsportsmanlike, like "we hate it because we're old farts."

I disagree.  It is unsportsmanlike because it is designed to confuse the officials.

The team moves and shifts at the last second (the whole team including the line) and the officials are supposed to recognize, by sight and without the aid of instant replay, who moved, who were the down linemen, who was eligible and who wasn't.  It is not physically possible in a split second to record all 11 players and make a sound judgment.  (And then we are gonna b*tch when they blow a call.)

If it is impossible to judge a play, then it is impossible to tell when a team is cheating or even when there is an illegal formation or illegal motion, etc..  The offense is not being innovative, they are being deceptive, not to the defense, but to the officials.  That is unsportsmanlike.  IMO.

I was ready to disagree with you, but these are well-made points.
