He needs to be on a team that will not rely so heavily on him for production. He needs some protection in the batting order to succeed. IMO.
Dunn is not the type of player who can put a team on his back. Cincy relied on him too much for leadership, but he is not a self starter and he does not inspire the guys around him to be better.. Although, he has decent numbers on paper, he is not a clutch guy.
He will have the same struggles in Washington that he had in Cincy.
I was seriously hoping to see him land on a contender.
I guess I'll repeat what I said in the other thread.
It's only a two year deal, and trust me, the Nats had to do *something* to get some interest in a moribund franchise more known for the crazies they employ (see: Dukes, Elijah). He doesn't need to "carry" the team, because they're not good enough to matter.
Looking at their roster, the Nats might be able to cobble a decent offense this year. Too bad their pitching blows, but any progress is good for them, and 8-7 games will certainly be more entertaining than last year's dreck.

40+ homeruns for five straight years is a good marketing tool for the Nationals. Dunn is a good sign. The Nats have it tough against the Mets, Phillies, Braves.
Now that the first domino in the "B" class of free agents has fallen. I bet we start to see the rest fall within the next week or two with Spring Training drawing so much closer.
Adam Dunn is not a bad player at all. I think too many people look down on him because he has too many K's and a low Avg. Before I make my point I want to discuss OBP and SLG. OBP is more important measure of a batter's productivy than Avg because OBP accounts for walks. Therefore, a player with a high OBP is helping his team out by not producing an out. It is considered an OBP of over .400 is good, or in other words is equivlant to a .300 Avg. Slugging Percentage (or SLG for short) is a statistic that goes beyond simply a player's ability to get a hit or get on base, it measures his ability to get a hit and hit for power. Slugging Percentage is the ratio of total bases to at bats. Total Bases credits a player for extra-base hits (doubles, triples, and home runs). Put simply, a player gets a "base" for each base he reaches during a season. Now, what makes a good Slugging Percentage? Well, it's generally accepted that a .500 Slugging Percentage is pretty darn good.
Ok, now to my point about Adam Dunn. Dunn is a power hitter that despite a low career avg at .247, about .25 point below good power hitters. However, he averages 40 HRs, 97 RBIs, and 100 runs a season. Anyone that understands Baseball stats knows that anyone that can produce 100 RBIs and 100 Runs a season is a dime a dozen, and that does not include his 40 HRs, where most good power hitters average in the lower to mid 30's. His career OBP is .381, and his career SLG is .518., which leads to an OPS of .899.
I am not saying that Dunn is a Top 5 Power Hitter in the league, but he can provide a team with some decent power numbers. For him to be effective he needs a batter that can hit for average behind him.
I can hardly wait for baseball!!!! It seems so odd to think of it starting so soon, when all you see still is darkness and cold like -20, still up here. Oh and did I mention plenty of ice and snow? I'm so glad that I can watch it on my puter!!

I agree, but what contender really needs a big hacker like Dunn? The Cubs need left handed power, but I don't want to watch him strike out 150+ times. I don't see any good fit for Dunn, unless he cuts down on his K's.
Forget 40-40, Adam Dunn will be MLBs first member of the 200-200 club - 200 strikeouts, 200 errors. He should have stayed in the AL. He's nothing but a DH with a glove
