Albert Pujols will have to make more than Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira in next contract
If Alex Rodriguez is worth $275M and Mark Teixeira is worth $180M, then how much will Albert Pujols be worth as a free agent?
READ MORE:

The sad truth is that Albert Pujols will most likely be worth much more than both Rodriguez and Teixeira, but will make considerably less anyway, because the Yankees probably won't be in the bidding.

Even when they had no competition for Alex Rodriguez, they gave him $27M per year. When other teams were in the $160M range for Teixeira, the Yanks topped them by $20M.

I'm honestly not sure why so many stories about Pujols' impending free agency are coming up so much lately, other than the fact that it's a bit slow in the sports news department, but after 2011, when he becomes a free agent, we could see either a guy become the new highest paid player in baseball, or we could see a guy who makes well over $20M per year, but is still somehow underpaid.

That guy is amazing.  I wonder if he'll still be worth that kind of money when "the list" comes out?

Pujols  might as well get paid the biggest damn pile of cash because he is like the Babe Ruth of are era! plus the cardinals should pay him to keep playing for them because he always has and he always will!

They're testing more than ever, and he's still putting up the numbers. So even if he was juicing before, he's still worth it.

Yeah.  I know it's probably asking for too much, but I want the HGH test.  Let's have blood tests and put the era behind us.

unfortunately he won't get nearly as much money even though he deserves it much more in my opinion. Part of my respet for him is how he handles himself off the field - he seems to be a class act.

he is classy on or off the field............. just like ruth! im ashamed you people honestly think pujols would use steroids he is just as good as he has ever been!

Class act indeed.  One, he married his wife, he immediately adopted and is raising her disabled daughter.  He knew it going and took responsibility for her right away.  Name an athlete who would do that?  Not many.

Unfortunately, juicing will hang over all sluggers.  I wish I could say he doesn't but he comes from my home country, Dominican Republic which has a pretty bad reputation when it comes to juicing and dicey dealing with baseball.

Is he worth more money that any player in the league?  Absolutely!!  He is so dangerous at the plate and is just plain intimidating.  I remember that homer he hit in the NLCS against the Astros..  Petite's face and expression was priceless.  He deserves as much money as he wants, but few teams are willing to show him the money.

Well he got 7 years, 100 million.  He may ask for 7 years, 180m or more.  The problem will be is that the only team that can really afford him other than the Yankees are the Red Sox maybe the Dodgers?!  So does Albert want to leave St. Louis for more money or does he want to ask for a tad more cash such as 130 or 140m over the same length of time, but 2 year option at the end of it.  Of course the contract would be incentive laden. This kind of contract would basically make him a cardinal for life.

O.K. Cardinals management, sign Pujols to an extension NOW! Do it before its too late! Your fans truly love this guy. SIGN HIM!

I may be a cubs fan, but i love Pujols.  So if the Cardinals are smart they will sign him quickly and to an extremely fair and long term deal where he basically retires as a Cardinal.  He seems extremely happy in St. Louis.

Doesn't matter, his name isn't one of the ones on "The List". Just because he has ripped the Cubs a new a** over the years, doesn't mean he was on the juice

You don't know that.

I don't think he's on the list either, and I desperately hope that he isn't, but I don't think it would surprise anyone if he were on there.

Somebody would if you can hit .340 with 40 home runs and drive in 130 runs every year.

I know this is probably a cliche thing to say but listening to Albert Pujols talk, it isnt about how much money he makes or can make.  Remember, everyone of these teams had the chance to take Pujols and they all passed on him, minus the Cardinals.  Pujols is extremely loyal, sometimes almost to a fault in situations like this.  He knows he's worth alot more money then he gets and while I think he deserves to get paid, I think Pujols will be happy taking less money if he knows the Cardinals are going to consistently commit to putting a contending team around him.

i agree! though even if he got paid more he would put alot of that money into his charity to help people with down syndrome

The reason why there have been so many stories lately was because a local sportswriter did a story about how he feels the Cardinals are somewhat wasting Albert Pujols' talent while he is in his prime.  They didnt go out and make any type of move last year to try and compete and faltered the last month of the season.  They didnt add much of anything this offseason and while they are currently leading the division, I think it goes without saying that they still need a piece or two in order to really compete in the NL Central...a division where all 6 teams are within 7 games of one another.  Whomever gets hot could run away with the division

I'm not one of those "rip a guy because he's destroyed the Cubs" kinda guys... and there is no doubt that his name will be on the list.

...and I have no doubt that his name is not on it...Read this article (The Power to Believe) and tell me you still think 100% that he is on the list....Just because a guy has power and is an exceptional ball player, doesn't mean that they are on steroids.

He'll be on the list... but just to try and show you that I try not to be a "homer," I would be shocked if Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were not on the list as well.

When exactly did that "kicking" happen.  The Cubs have won the division the last two years.

P.S. I tried to find a picture of a Cubs player with a World Series trophy, but they didn't have cameras back then.

Point taken.  It's hard to argue with the hardware.
