Alex Rodriguez gets the game winnine RBI, Yankees win 7-4 in Game 4, to take a 3-1 World Series lead
Finally, Alex Rodriguez has earned the mythical and ridiculous title of a ''True Yankee''
17
For years, idiots everywhere have tried to differentiate between players who play for the New York Yankees, and "True Yankees". By their standards, Alex Rodriguez was not a "True Yankee", because he had never won a championship, and was perceived as a poor performer in the playoffs.

Even after obliterating the Twins and Angels, he was criticized for having a slow start in the World Series against guys like Cliff Lee and Pedro Martinez.

Tonight, it looks like A-Rod has silenced the critics... for now. With his game-winning RBI in the 9th inning, he helped put the Yankees in a nice spot, with a 3-1 series lead.

Johnny Damon's incredible baserunning awareness also came into play, as he stole 2nd and 3rd on the same play, while the Yankees had the overshift on for Mark Teixeira.

Cliff Lee will take the mound tomorrow night for the Phillies against AJ Burnett, as the Phillies attempt to survive to take the series back to New York.

We still throwing around that "true Yankee" media garbage?  When you underperform in NY, you get booed, simply put.  In Philly they booed Santa, but no one converted them to Judaism.  Geez.

A-Rod is a good player before the Yankees and after the Yankees. He is a player that can remain in the MLB for a while, and I hope he plans to go else where if the Yankees do not want him.

I don't know that I'd call Damon's 1st to 3rd great baserunning...  it was simply using the whole that the overshift leaves.  If anything, the credit goes to the Yankee's coaching staff on that one.  I've always hated the shift, especially with runners on, and hopefully the play tonight will get coaches to cut down on overshifting every freakin' power hitter in the game.  There's a good reason why, for the first century+ of the game, it wasn't done.

Sabathia pitched a good game, the Yanks offense was on, the Phils batters watched waaaaaaay too many belt-high, over-the-plate pitches go by without taking their bats off their shoulders.  If I see one more guy sit on three 85 mph barely-breaking breaking balls going right over the hitters sweet spot, knees to belt on the outer half, I'm going to shit a friggin brick.

He joined the team for one reason and that is to win the championship, just like the others that have joined before him. As a ridicuolous phrase as it may be, A-Rod had to 'earn his pinstripes' because the team's failure to advance has been in part due to his inability to produce in clutch spots... well he has been clutch in the past 2 games and on the road as well. This is the year A-Rod finally becomes part of Yankee lore and new Yankee stadium could be called the House Alex Built

A-fraud is a steroid..let me rephrase.. a past steroid user anything he does is questionabe now.I believe using A-frauds and Jeters name in the same sentence would be an insult to Jeter.Jeter is the complete package. One of the the greatest if not the greatest in the game.

Oh such short memories... Talking about steroids and the 02/04 Red Sox on the same post... The 02/04 Red Sox had not 1, not 2, but AT LEAST 3 roid users on the team. As much info ties A-Rod to the Roids as does the Boston heroes Manny Ramirez (remember how he actually GOT suspended for it... but oh wait... he was just Manny being Manny) and David Ortiz who is 'apparently' on the same list A-Rod is, and just check out his production now that he has feds waiting for him outside of urinals left and right... And while there is no 'concrete' evidence, if, no wait, WHEN the list of names is released may I drop dead on the spot if the Hebrew Hammer himself, Gabe Kapler is not on that list... http://www.flickr.com/photos/25781987@N06/2489793720/ ... The dude felt the heat and had to go to Japan... JAPAN to get clean... and if anyone insists otherwise they are fooling themself. He went from a regular contributor on a World Series winning ballclub to not even pursuing a job in America and immediately fled to JAPAN!!! And anyone remember Paxton Crawford talking about his old Pawtuckett Sox teammates? Didn't think so. Look it up. The Red Sox and their cadre of goons are as much a part of the late 90's early 00's steroid binge as anyone else. Hate on A-Rod and the Yankees all you want, but you're just blowing smoke up your @$$...

There... I'll do the research for you... And that article is coming to you from the obviously vested interests of the Boston globe (another fine Boston establishment these days) Note the part where he says his teammates in the 'bigs were introducing him to the roids... yeah... sounds about right...

For the record, the guy who brought up steroids is a Blue Jays fan, not a Red Sox fan.

Second, just for the record... do you know who owns the Boston Globe? Hint: The New York Times. Just saying.

You are all kidding yourselves if you think the only steroid users were on the Yankees, A's,Red soxs and Mets. There were users on all of the teams so if picking on Arod or any of the teams that have known players makes you feel better your team is not in the playoffs or wining the series then bitch on.

Didn't say "Pat brought up steroids" now did I, just said all the chatter existed in the same post. Such complexes around here! And if you really think that Sox-Yanks banter goes all the way up to newspaper corporate ownership then all the power to you thinking that many people care. I was moreso speaking of, say, the sports editor or the actual reporters in general. And perhaps how the Globe, which is one of the more than 20 newspapers held by NYT group is the one that is most notoriously a failure. But that's neither here nor there. Nice job avoiding the crux of my statements though and picking up on those little things, reminds me of my old roommates!

I didn't say that you accused me of it. I'm merely pointing out the fact that your rage appears to be directed towards the Red Sox and their fans... and it was a Blue Jays fan who brought it up, and has been the only one to even discuss it.

You won't hear me bitch about so-and-so from this team or that team using steroids, because I understand (like more educated fans do) that steroids were prevalent THROUGHOUT baseball, and all teams were guilty.

I'm not entirely sure of the reasoning behind your rant in here, but just pick a team, and I'm sure that you can come up with an equally absurd amount of articles to support the fact that they used performance enhancing drugs.

Just saying.

While A-Rod was huge last night, I think more credit should go to Damon.  I his AB and then the base-running rattled Lidge more than the hits that were gotten after.

The Yankees have been much tougher than I thought they would be.  Except for Game 1, every time the Phillies have made a move or done something well, the Yankees have come right back to match or out-do what the Phillies did.  Whether it's runs, pitching, or base-running, it's hard to beat a team that refuses to be out-played.  Whether you like it or not, you've gotta respect that.
