Alonzo Mourning and Dwyane Wade generated nearly $800K to go toward the Haitian Relief efforts.

For 7 days, it's been an onslaught of pictures and videos and Anderson Cooper skits revolving around the destruction in Haiti. That's why it's so refreshing to see this kind of humanitarianism.

Mourning's been known around the community for his charity work. His "Zo's Summer Groove" is an annual event, and one that I'm glad to have attended several times.

Of the $800K generated, $100K of it came from Mourning himself. Dwyane Wade chipped in $175K. Other athletes who have contributed include LeBron James, Chris Paul, Gilbert Arenas, Michael Beasley, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Michael Vick.

Say what we will about Vick, Arenas, Moss, and T.O., but not today. Let's try and find one kind of common thread, if only for a day.

I'm sure you've all seen the ad before, but it always bear repeating: If you want to donate $10 to the Red Cross relief efforts, text HAITI to the number 90999, then type YES to confirm. I've donated several times, and I hope you all can too.

It's not much, but every bit helps right now. Alright, I'll get off my soapbox now.
