Twins CF Denard Span was signed to a 5-year deal today. Details on terms hasn't been announced yet, but for anyone that has watched this guy play in the outfield, it's a great move for Minnesota no matter what.

A solid defensiveman, along with a great eye at the plate as a leadoff man, Span in his first two seasons has averaged a .305 BA along with a .390 OBP. Denard also scored 97 runs last season, and with the additions of Hudson, Thome, and Hardy, expect that number to go up even higher.

UPDATE: The Twins announced that it is a five-year contract extension worth a guaranteed $16.5 million. The contract locks Span up through 2014, with a $9 million club option for 2015 that includes a $500,000 buyout.

Said Span before taking batting practice on Saturday morning, "It's a good day."
