Anybody know why HR's are down in baseball again? I just can't seem to guess why.

Why were they so low in 2002?  It's a hard trend to discern, but I don't think it has much to do with drug testing, since they still haven't implemented a worth program.

I think it's at least scared off a fair portion of the players and has had an impact. I also believe MLB made the balls differently from 97'-'01 ish in need of putting some life into the game and the overwhelming desire of fans to see home runs.

Yeah, the balls were basically corked.  It would help this years numbers if teams like the Rockies, Brewers and Tigers started hitting the ball like they're supposed to.

The problem with this is that teams went out and "purchased" players that Had high amounts of homeruns, without realizing that they were wall scrappers, and the un corked balls are just  flyouts now!!!!

For the sakes of being PC, let's just say it's because of good pitching.

Cliff Lee and Brandon Webb are great examples. Not everyone can be Barry Zito

People are suckling on Cliff Lee because he's white but Ervin Santana is the best pitcher in the AL so far this year.

Or maybe its because Cliff Lee's ERA is miniscule by comparison (1.37 for Lee to 2.97 for Santana), Santana has twice as many walks (13 to 6) and only 4 more K's (50 to 46) in two-thirds of an inning more (60 to 59.3).  On top of which he gets a full run more in support (4.97 for Santana to 3.80 for Lee), and the only game Lee didn't get a decision in was a game against Toronto where he went 9 innings and gave up no runs while striking out 5, and the Indians lost the game in the 10th.  Both of Santana's no decisions were Angel losses, and he gave up a total of 7 earned runs in 12.3 innings.  But, you know what, you're right, it has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with skin color.

It's a smaller market on a worse team.  I guess they get more coverage because the Indians were in the ALCS last year.  But you don't hear any of your neurotic numbers mentioned during sportscasts.  I just hear a ton of Cliff Lee Cy Young talk and not a peep about Santana, who's in a bigger market, on a better team.

I've heard some Santana Cy Young talk, but he's been overshadowed by another west coast fella, albeit in the senior circuit, Brandon Webb.  And yes Cliff Lee has been the media's darling.  Regardless, any Cy Young talk at this point, is a bit premature.

Wish I could write more, just can't stop biting my fingernails.

Any time I bring up race it's meant in jest, I just don't like the Indians.  His last outing nearly doubled all his numbers.  Hopefully for Cleveland fans the devil's lease on Lee's soul wasn't only for a quarter of the season.
