What gets me is that at the start of the Overtime period when the captains come to midfield. The Ref will review overtime rules right before the coin flip. When they discuss this it is not just with the captains. The ref has the mic on and announces to the stadium what the said rules are for overtime. For the regular season they will say, "We are playing one fifteen minute quarter under fourth quarter rules, and all reviews will be initiated by the booth, first team to score wins". No mention of playing till there is a winner. That as we all know occurs in the playoffs.
Ben does have a point. How often does a game end in a tie? It has been 6 years since the last time it happened before this past Sunday. I wonder how many players who came into the league from 2003 on up did know games could end in a tie. Football players aren't always known for their intelligence.
