Are the Phillies Blowing It By Starting Pedro Tonight?
Real Clear Sports asks the question many Red Sox fans (and more than a few Phillies fans as well I imagine) are asking themselves: Are the Phillies giving game 2 to the Yankees by starting Pedro? Sure, Pedro has been quite effective since joining the Phillies (5-1, 3.63 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) but he has had an allergic reaction to success when facing  the Yankees in the post-season. See his 1-2 record with a 4.72 ERA in six postseason appearances against the Evil Empire.

The best way to gauge this decision is not by asking Phillies or Red Sox fans but Yankees fans. So, ye of the dark side, answer this: would you rather face Pedro " I Beat Don Zimmer Like a Rented Mule" Martinez or the lefty Cole Hamels tonight in Yankee Stadium? I think I know the answer, but please enlighten us.

Cole Hamels hasnt been very effective on the road and Joe Blanton has been inconsistent.  With the Phillies up 1-0, they can afford to take a chance with Pedro.

Since the Phillies won Game 1, I don't see this as a particularly big deal. The fact that the Yankees have to face Cliff Lee potentially three times is what should be making Yankees fans crap their pants.

I agree completely.  The Phils are in the driver's seat, having taken Game 1, and in a rather dominating fashion too.  Anything they can get from Pedro is a bonus, and with Cliff Lee going all 9 innings, if the Phils are able to get 5 solid innings from Pedro, their bullpen can close it out as a result of having the last 7 days off.

Pedro will hav more experience to pitch at Yanke Stadium and Hamels pitches better at home than on the road. Makes sense to me. Seems like people should be more concerned about how long the YANKEE starters can go against the Phillies power attack!

Exactly. If there's anyone on that staff with the experience to start a World Series game in Yankee Stadium, it's Pedro. Hamels pitches much better at Citizens Bank Park, plus the Phils now have a lead, and a completely rested bullpen. It makes sense.

No.

And if Pedro deals like he did against the Dodgers this series will be over.

Charlie Manuel knows Hamels is more comfortable at home, this is the reason for Pedro tonight and Hamels Saturday. People thinks Pedro is gonna get smaked around like a rented mule, we'll have to wait and see. If Pedro is effective with that same approach he used in L.A then we have even more to celebrate. I agree with the ones saying the Phillies are in the drivers seat, this really is MUST win for the Yankees.
