When Australia and New Zealand are face to face so It is always a tough takes for finding a perfect replacement of gloriously talented wicket-keeper batsman Like Brendon McCullum and fill his shoes at crunch time. But New Zealand is lucky enough to have Gerath Hopkins who is not only not allowing the his team to feel the absence of Brendon McCullum but is also turning out to be equal to the task that is of performing well in all departments of the game and earn team historic victories against defiant and obstinate Australian cricket team that is known for their never say die attitude under any sort of circumstances.
In his all four limited chances of one-day international games against Australia he has not only given some indications of trustworthy talent but has also made his presence felt at the highest level of the game by taking gloves of Brendon McCullum. Against Australia in the T20 international games Hopkins scored 26 and 36 only. Moreover, that was not the frontline squad of New Zealand.
Although these scores do not testify about his talent but these scores are enough to indicate about his ttalent at least because when he came in the middle to bat at that time McCullum had hurt his back. Hopkins’s scores in last two One Day international games were 35 and 45 but yet he has been getting chances over McCullum. Unfortunately He could not win games for nation.
In this regard Hopkins says that he is happy be the part of his team like any other player of the world. he is also happy with his performance for indicating. According to him when you bat at No 7 so you have to finish the game for you team and this is the only one thing that i have not succeeded in doing sofar despite getting useful starts. He also believes that he needs to carry on till the end after getting a start and win the match for his team by converting those starts into big innings.
His thinking about himself seems to be quite right if we look at his recent performances in the recent ongoing series against difficult Aussies because all his performances have shall-shocked them. He again seems to be right when he says that he should be a man to watch-out in the final do or die encounter for Australia. He believes he cans a trump card or in simple words he can be a dark horse in the last clash of the series because mighty Australians have not seen him in a better way. But at the same time before the match they will definitely take his all the innings into consideration and choke-out a better plan to tackle him. Hopkins also has a plan to deal with Australia in the last decisive match in the context of the series and he has also kept the option of sticking to his game plan and style of playing open in the 4th ODI.
Kiwi coach Mr. Mark Great batch is highly impressed with his performances and thinks that when some player plays well and woks hard on his game from bottom his heart with full commitment like him so he deserves to get a his dream chance of playing for his nation at the highest level of the game. for any player like him playing for his nation is just like dream coming true and he has made it come true with his hard work and commitment towards the game. He is improving his game day by day.
Hopkins always had to wait for Brendon McCollum to sit out for any reason and hand his gloves over to him for getting his chance. Despite this at the age of 33 years he has cashed all the limited chances given to him by the selectors very well. So far he has represented new Zealand At the international level in one Test, 16 ODIs and four T20s and he wants to play more.
Hopkins also feels that he has never been more then a replacement to fill Brendon’s Shoes in case he has to sit out of the game on any tour or during any series anywhere. Despite this Hopkins has done well with zest and zeal even when brendon got fit in Auckland. I have always felt awesome in the team and i have played all the games of my career with full intensity and honesty for New Zealand and especially against Australia.
