Baltimore Ravens could sign Jacoby Jones as free agent
A veteran wide receiver, who can also boast about his exceptional returning skills, is creating a lot of buzz in the free agency market. Jacoby Jones is attracting a lot attention from a couple of NFL franchises since he was released by the Houston Texans last week.
Just today the NFL Network came up with the news of Jacoby Jones meeting and working out with the Baltimore Ravens. Jacoby Jones, who has caught 31 passes for 512 yards during his spell with the Houston Texans, was also the franchise’s primary punt returner. Jacoby Jones, versatile role on the team has brought a lot of interest from the Baltimore Ravens.
Jacoby Jones was in the second year of his three-year contract with the Houston Texans before his release. Jacoby Jones was going to make $3 million next season, but Houston Texans are confident about surviving without him. Well, to be honest, their draft picks and signings are pretty good. Moreover, their roster is talented too.
Houston Texans drafted receivers during the third and fourth round of the drafts this year. Their picks were Ohio State’s DeVier Posey and Michigan State’s Keshawn Martin.
Jacoby Jones, who has caught 127 passes for 1,741 yards and 11 touchdowns in 75 career games, performed well for the Houston Texans; but the franchise is aiming to rebuild their squad, which is why Jacoby Jones got the kick. Jacoby Jones also posted impressive statistics as a punt returner. Jacoby Jones averaged around 10.6 yards per return with three touchdowns.
The Baltimore Ravens have already drafted Tommy Streeter from Miami in the sixth round, and a return specialist Asa Jackson in the fifth round. Both players will probably get plenty of time to play this season, but Baltimore Ravens want to add some experience at these spots, which is why they want to sign in Jacoby Jones.
Baltimore Ravens also have Tandon Doss and LaQuan Williams on their roster, but they too are inexperienced in comparison Jacoby Jones. Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith are expected to lead the team, therefore if Jacoby Jones arrives at Baltimore he will most probably step in as the 3rd wide receiver for the Ravens.
Sources have revealed that the Baltimore Ravens have only $2 million of salary cap space left on their roster for Jacoby Jones. Both parties are expected to sit down and negotiate the matter over. Jacoby Jones as already attended a workout with the Carolina Panthers.
