Bears Defensive Lineman, Tommie Harris, is doubtful for tomorrow's game at Cincinnati. Many fans realized that the veteran Oklahoma Sooner was still ailing with left knee soreness.
Unfortunately, there is seemingly no end in sight to Harris' injury. He is nowhere near the same player who burst onto the scene as one of the elite pass rushers in the NFL. You won't see him in the opponent's backfield; when Tommie is blocked, he stays blocked. Unfortunately the Bears have little shot to take the next step without him.
You see, the Cover 2 that the Bears usually run, is predicated on pressuring the passer. Without disrupting the quarterback, offenses can dink-and-dunk their way down the field, 6 yards at a time. This is even more frightening, when considering the quarterback talent in the NFC North. Even the young Matthew Stafford, looks as though he could grow into an accomplished NFL signal-caller.
The Bears will now attempt to fix this "on the fly," and the fan base hopes that one day Tommie Harris will be a disruptive force on the field. We can only hope so.
