The fourth quarter was often a nighmare for the Chicago Bears last year. They were unable to hold several late leads, and subsequently missed the playoffs because of it.
This was never more true than the Bears' blown lead in the closing seconds against the Falcons. With victory seemingly assured, Chicago chose a ridiculous squib kick that gave the Falcons great field position. Matt Ryan completed one long pass, and Jason Elam connected on a 48-yard, game-winning field goal. Atlanta did all that in the last 11 seconds of the game. It was a pitiful example of poor clock management.
This year's team appears to be much different. The Bears have rallied to win during their last three games, and quarterback, Jay Cutler is of course, a big reason for that. There is much work to be done, but at this point, the Bears have overcome their propensity for giving games away. This Sunday, they return to the "scene of the crime," as they take on what looks like a truly elite Atlanta Falcons team. I would assume that if the Bears lead late in the game, you won't see a squib kick. This is a defining week of the season, and if the Bears are able to win at the Georgia Dome, they will separate themselves from much of the pack in the NFC.
