Bears Learning to "Close" Games
The fourth quarter was often a nighmare for the Chicago Bears last year.  They were unable to hold several late leads, and subsequently missed the playoffs because of it.

This was never more true than the Bears' blown lead in the closing seconds against the Falcons.  With victory seemingly assured, Chicago chose a ridiculous squib kick that gave the Falcons great field position.  Matt Ryan completed one long pass, and Jason Elam connected on a 48-yard, game-winning field goal.  Atlanta did all that in the last 11 seconds of the game.  It was a pitiful example of poor clock management.

This year's team appears to be much different.  The Bears have rallied to win during their last three games, and quarterback, Jay Cutler is of course, a big reason for that.  There is much work to be done, but at this point, the Bears have overcome their propensity for giving games away.  This Sunday, they return to the "scene of the crime," as they take on what looks like a truly elite Atlanta Falcons team.  I would assume that if the Bears lead late in the game, you won't see a squib kick.  This is a defining week of the season, and if the Bears are able to win at the Georgia Dome, they will separate themselves from much of the pack in the NFC.

Last year's game was a roller coaster.  I didn't think Orton was capable of leading the offense down the field in two minutes and when he did, I might have been the happiest guy this side of the Mississippi.  Then the Falcons took advantage of critical mistakes made by the Bears and stunned all of Chicago.  It might have been the quickest I've ever gone from a high to a low in  my life.

I think Lovie recognized the mistakes he made last year and the special teams are back to an elite level in Chicago.  Therefore, I don't see any huge blunders coming via the special teams again.  Also, Lovie is calling the defense again.  Hopefully that bodes well for the secondary, which was a major reason for the loss last year.

All in all, if the game is close, I believe Cutler will lead them back.  This is a huge game in many regards and a great performance by Cutler will go a long way towards a successful remainder of the season.

Its a lot easier to come back when you have a legitimate threat to throw the ball.

Yeah it is.  It changes everything.  No more turning the game off because you go down 10-0.

Usually what separates a bad record from a good record is something as simple as closing out games.  The Bengals are doing it this year.  Cutler definitely gives Chicago the chance to do that (but on the other side of the coin, he also has the propensity to throw late-game INTs...not picking on him but it's true)
