Jim's son, J.C. France, who was a competitor in the Grand Am series, was apparently racing his half-brother, Russell Van Richmond. J.C. was in a 2007 Lamboughini, while Russell was driving a 2003 Porsche.
Most noteable about this story is the fact that both "boys" (who are in their 40's but acting like spoiled teenagers) tried to pull the "I'm a France - we own NASCAR and we own this city" card on the officer who stopped them, and were inebriated. Richmond was in possession of cocaine. Maybe cocaine is rampant in Miami, where the incident took place, maybe not, but I'm sure many criminals have laid claim to ownership of the city and this was not a new claim to the officer.
In any case, the law prevailed, and the two were arrested and Richmond was charged with two counts of possession. The two apparently share a home in the Miami area.
NASCAR's Ramsey Poston announced,
"Grand-Am has issued a penalty notice and suspended J.C. indefinitely from all competition for actions detrimental to racing," Poston said. "The penalty is not appealable. J.C. is being treated like any other competitor. His suspension is immediate and indefinite."
I guess the law and NASCAR really is in charge and the two don't have the pull they think they do.
