The Blackhawks, looking for a running mate for star young center Patrick Kane, grabbed Hossa away from the rival Red Wings with a 12-year deal. Curious, considering that Hossa will be 42 by the time this deal expires.
A seven-time 30-goal scorer and four-time All Star should fit nicely into what's looking like a pretty explosive offense for the Blackhawks.
This deal continues the NHL trend of locking up stars for huge, long-term contracts (including the Islanders' Rick DiPietro for 16 years), as clubs try to secure talent at what they hope will be cap-friendly numbers later on.
