Covering all the bases from Sunday in baseball ...
Bonds Get Starting Nod Making up over to 100,000 in the final week, the fans voted Barry to start at home in San Francisco. Or was it really the fans voting him in? I think Larry Brown has the more accurate angle:
Down 119,000 votes as of last week, and in what, six days he catapulted ahead of Alfonso Soriano by 123,000? Are you kidding me? You expect me to believe that happened? I don't care what kind of push the Giants made for Barry to get into the game. I don't believe it could have accounted for such a difference in such a short amount of time.Despite your personal opinion of Bonds, it's only right for baseball he represent the host city. Despite ESPN's confounding claim that Barry Bonds is having a lackluster season, the truth is much different. He is leading the MLB in OPS.
Mike Hargrove Calls It Quits This still seems all too peculiar, that I'm going to resist harsh criticism and hope all is well with Mike. You'd still hope, he'd at least finish the season. New Mariners manager John McLaren seemed to be more stunned than we were at his press conference yesterday.
More Manager News: Reds fire Jerry Narron Advanced scout Pete Mackanin is taking over, which seems peculiar, considering scouting has been one of the primary downfalls of the organization.
