Bob Griese makes bad comment about Juan Pablo Montoya
Bob Griese makes a rather poorly timed joke about Juan Pablo Montoya
During the Ohio State/Minnesota game today, Bob Griese had something rather interesting to say regarding Juan Pablo Montoya.

Replying to colleague Chris Speilman's inquiry regarding Montoya's absence from the top 5 rankings in NASCAR, Griese promptly responded "he's out getting a taco."

Whoops.

Montoya, by the way, isn't even Mexican. He's Colombian. So I'll just let you make your own jokes.....about Griese, I mean, who did apologize by the way.

I heard him apologize at the end of the game and was wondering what that was about. If he was going to stereotype, he could've at least made a crack joke.

I'm wondering if any Montoya fans will bring Greasy tacos to ABC studios?

I've got many jokes about that (my grandson is half mexican).  Bob should know better than saying something like that on an open mike!  Hell, Harry Carey wouldn't have cared tho so maybe he is trying to emulate Harry! LOL

Your right 100% Injury! Apparently, Griese didnt realize that Tacos are not Mexican food, so that "Taco" blast is rendered useless. Hey Griese, think before you crack another stupid joke. Montoya, is somewhere eating a taco, and you think its funny? Well, Im not laughing, and neither are the Mexicans.

Whether or not they eat tacos in Colombia is irrelevant.  Its the thought process behind and it and the generalizations we make in society about certain groups of people.  I eat tacos too, but nobody is going to make a "he was out getting a taco" joke about me.

He could have at least called him Juan Valdez or something..idiots abound everywhere, and they get paid the big bucks...go figure!

I always thought Griese was one of the least annoying 1972 Dolphins.  Not a good week for the ABC/ESPN/Disney beast.

I know he stopped sniffing "blow," so that's a good thing,  He'll be somewhere standing behind Larry Csonka when the pathetic 1972 Dophins celebrate the last NFL team to lose a game this year.

off topic, but they'll have to keep the champagne cold for a while, the saints look unstoppable (first time ever saints and unstoppable have ever been used in the same sentence!)

Bring it on.  If the Bears don't win it (and I don't think this is their year), I would love to see someone help the '72 Dolphins shut up.

but we would have to see morris rapping and complaining about nothing on ESPN before the super bowl again, but it would be worth it... if they won of course.

Actually, that doesn't have anything to do with it.  The Dolphins deserved to win that game in 1985.  My point is that it's 2009, so if you're still rooting against teams 37 years later, you're pathetic.  I'm not out on a limb here; 99% of sports fans agree with me on this.

The 72' Dolphins are not rooting against teams not to go undefeated. They are just celebrating the fact that what they accomplished was a truly remarkable feat. 17-0 cemented their legacy and place in history!  If someone else does come along and goes 19-0 and breaks it, then they can join the elusive club of undefeated teams in the history of the NFL. They have every right to celebrate "perfection"...why the hell not?
It would be totally absurd not to and does it really matter what other teams' hater fans think?  PLEASE..!!
Everyone deserves recognition for a job well done and in 1972, the Miami Dolphins did it better than any other team in the NFL. It is part of history whether you like it or not..!!   By the way, where did you get your biased figures that 99% of sports fans agree with you on this?  You are deceptive, misinformed or gullible if you truly believe that. The only people that don't appreciate great accomplishments are those that truly don't understand it- because they were never athletic enough to play an organized sport. The rest are just miserable, jealous people that have anger and hate in their hearts and they have a problem seeing other people being happy. Misery loves company...!!   17-0 Dolphins, 18-1 49ers and the 18-1 Bears were all great teams....that is a fact but only one was perfect.

You hate 72 Dolphins for some reason..obviously or you wouldnt even mention it..I was 6 mos old when they won..duh..I could care less and I hope someone beats their record as well..grown men acting that way..Jesus! By the way I like the Cubs..cute name..

I totally agree with you. It actually is a very witty remark. Tacos are generally used as an analogy when describing a certain part of the female anatomy. I think Griese made the remark thinkin' people would get the joke.....that Montoya was busy "getting some". It was blown out of context and he probably realized that it could be taken as a racist remark by those who are not so quick witted and decided to apologize. Most guys know what the "taco" analogy is when they are being teased by their buddies...tacos are everywhere and they are international and I think thats how this should have been taken. LOL!!

Thats exactly how it should have been taken. Griese was trying to make him look like a "stud" and people are now wondering if he's a racist.

Well Bob, Juan Pablo Montoya probably doesn't really care of your sterotyping and most importantly have you seen the tail F1 drivers get?. Yeah I know he's racing redneck NASCAR and is married ,but Montoya just adds a little more class to NASCAR which is a sport that needs the most help in this area. Hey  Laker season is starting up and its time for free tacos. ( if you dont know if the Lakers hold their opponent under 100 points at home games its free tacos) for everyone!  The chant is pretty funny " we want tacos, we want tacos!"

Montoya is Colombian. I could see if he said he was out getting cocaine. That would have been wrong, but at least culturally accurate.

Once again someone tried a joke and it failed. Everyone seems ready to jump on the band wagon to assume what he meant. Someone probably said you better retract that with an apology so we do not get sued!

Lakers are definitely a class act..highest payroll in the history of Professional Basketball..Highest priced seating and parking as well but they are most generous to let Taco Bell give away Tacos for a plug..Jack Nicholson doesnt look like he needs another one..

Fitst, I think maybe everyone is a little uptight. People get their feelings hurt a little too easily. Second, "nappy headed hoes" (don imus) and "he's out getting a taco" are a little different don't ya think? Imus seriously offended an entire race, Griese thought Montoya is Mexican, he's not true enough, but why is it racist to say a Mexican is having a taco? Would it have been offensive if he said he's out getting a cup of coffee?

I heard the joke but you really had to be paying attention to hear it during the game. But the attempted apology at the end of the game was really awkward.

My wife is Puerto Rican and she still gets lumped into that whole Latino/Mexican thing, even though she is neither, she is Hispanic.  Of course being Italian, having family in New York and Vegas, people think that I have mob ties.  How far we have come in our society.

pathetic??? no cubs fan should ever use that word on any team other than the cubs. why are you gonna hate on sombody celebrating their acomplishment? A record they hold that nobody outside can share.  your bears had the chance to stop that for you but you had to get punked by Marino.

Bob was drunk.  Like father like son. Drinking falling down and saying dumb things.  Now Brian is in the NCAA booth. Thats a whole lot of steps to fall down Brian, and they don't allow dogs in the press box either.

Its so easy to pull the race card when these type of comments are made. What happened to freedom of speech?? Are people so sensitive these days that you cannot joke around?? I being white are one of the minorities in Canada. I get called honky,cracker...ect... do i get offended?? Not at all. People who use the race card when it benefits them need my perscription. It is take a bottle of  F- Off pills and O.D.

I totally agree with you icsmills. There is good and bad in every race. If we werre to have the white college fund we would be racist.Yet the black college fund is allowed. If we had white cloud television we would be racist..yet B.E.T is okay. Someone calls me names i laugh in their face. I use my verbal talent to make the S.T.F.U very quickly. I don't get mad i get even :)

Your point would be a lot stronger if you'd take out the "hate on" and "punked," since saying those things has come to mean everything and nothing.
