Bob Sanders, when he's on the field, is one of the top 3 safeties in the NFL. There is no doubt about that. The problem is that he's rarely on the field. In his first 5 years in the NFL, Sanders has missed 35 games, and he has already missed 5 this year. It looks like he'll be out even longer, since he needs surgery on his elbow.
Sanders almost played full seasons in 2005 and 2007, and was an All-Pro in both of those seasons. The Colts are used to playing without him, but he's always hard to replace. No word yet on how long he'll be out.
UPDATE: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, he's out for the year. That makes 49 missed games in 6 seasons. That's more missed games than games played.
