Boise State lays down the challenge to BCS conference teams
Who's Afraid Of the Big, Bad Broncos? Everyone, ...Apparently
From the article: "Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier is all but begging for a major opponent – any major opponent – to play his Broncos, particularly in 2011.

"Bleymaier is making a nearly unheard of offer in college football scheduling – Boise will bring its popular, high-profile, top-10 team to any stadium in any town to play any big name team in America in 2011. And they don’t have to return the date in Idaho.

Nebraska's Chancellor Perlman cracked that Utah should've played a 'Big 12' schedule last season. Hey, Mr Perlman, how about inviting the Broncos to Lincoln.

I absolutely LOVE that BSU's AD has gone public. I hope it gets even better if some AD has the guts to say, 'He's full of it, we offered and he turned US down.'

Texas asked Utah to play them but Utah declined.

Finally, an AD with a pair!  We will come to you and you don't have to come to Idaho.  Lets see who will take Boise State on their offer.

Nobody. And it will be that way until teams like Florida are penalized in the polls for playing the likes of Charleston Southern (yes, that I-AA powerhouse) in their open dates. To be honest though, teams from the Big East and Big Ten (conferences which lack respect, fairly or not) could do well to schedule a team like BSU

The Broncos play with a chip on their shoulder and they have nothing to lose and everything to gain in playing a big name program and that is what makes them so dangerous. Any team that has a shot or wants to be in the NC hunt will not or should not touch them because they are a potential loss and could knock you out of contention.

I said it before you people call teams wusses for not scheduling tough teams but it is the system that is at fault not the teams. Ads and coaches are scheduling to win the BCS and to win titles not to make the rest of the country feel better about themselves. With the BCS system it makes no since to stack the deck against yourself. If we had a playoff system 90% of the programs out there would play any one any time any where because the lose would not end your NC dreams you could still when it all in the playoffs. That is not the system we have and some teams have learned to play within that system to better their chances at a NC. Like it or not that is the way it is. Hate the system not the teams that play within it.

That was in 2004 when Urban Meyer was at Utah. Are you going to bring that up another 5 years from now.

Yes, the system is mostly to blame. But I just think it's funny that the one sport that hypes up its athletes as being so tough, so strong, so (insert adjective here) is the one sport where programs run from real competition.

So let me get this straight with the way the system is you think teams should stack the deck against themselves and schedule a potential loss or two and lose those games and be out of the BCS and national title picture when the ultimate goal is to win championships not to see who has the biggest set of balls.

Don't get me wrong I don't like it either but with the current system it is stupid to schedule teams that don't help you if you win but can kill you if you lose.

Sure. Take that risk. Give your players something to really go out and prove. And reward those teams in the polls. For example, Oregon should be above every other one loss team because of their willingness to open the season against a tough team like Boise State (and yes, they're tough, as evidenced by the fact that no one else wants to play them). And teams that lose, like Ohio State against USC, don't hold it against them the way you would a loss to Purdue. And penalize those bigger teams that go out and play 1-AA teams, like Florida, and yes, like Pitt. Yes, these deals are reached years in advance, but come on, you know that neither Charleston Southern or Youngstown State is going to provide a worthwhile challenge. Hopefully though the end of this season is so farked up, and so many good schools get screwed, that the level of outrage will slowly begin to rise

I would agree with you if if teams were rewarded or penalized like you say but they are not so it would be stupid to do so. Boise is dangerous because of the chip and nothing to lose mentality, I do not believe that they are as talented or better then the big programs. Yes they might beat them but teams that have something to prove like Boise have a distinct advantage. You put them in  BCS conference and they become a middle of the road team. They would have to fight to win conference games. They would not just be able to walk through the conference. Walking through a joke of a conference and beating one big program every once in a while does not make you a tough team.

Overall I agree, but they ARE a tough team. They out-recruit and out-coach all of their peers. They are trying to get someone to play them and noone will take a home game only vs BSU!?
Honestly, I'm a bit surprised.
The one thing not mentioned in the article was Boise State's terms. Are they wanting a big payday or just costs covered?

I did not mean to come off like they aren't tough they are I just don't think they are as tough as they look are people say they are based on the conference play. People do not give enough merit to tough conference play. Even a team that is not necessarily a great ball club but comes from a top notch conference will play an in- conference rival extremely tough and might hand them a lose. I don't see how they can be considered so tough and elite based only on a couple of non-con games.

I'd love to see ND schedule BSU. But ultimately it will come down to $$$ so that pretty much means that BSU will get iced out.

Every second it exists the BCS looks even more laughable.

(Have I met by BCS bashing quota?)

Apparently they are ready to man up, now someone else just needs to man up.  ND v. BSU... my money on the Broncos all day baby.
