Brett Favre may already be under contract with the Vikings
Today's unconfirmed Brett Favre rumor: He may have already signed a contract with the Vikings
32
This is a completely unconfirmed rumor, and is coming from a website that specializes in rumors, and has been wrong MANY times.

However, it's an interesting read, and would make sense for many reasons. Anyway, here's the meat and potatoes, courtesy of Mike Florio over at PFT:

"The rumor that the source would neither confirm nor deny is that the Vikings already have signed Brett Favre, and that the team and Favre are waiting to release the news.

If accurate, this means that the Vikings have a signed contract that they have yet to submit to the league office.  Setting aside for now the question of whether league rules permit such tactics, it puts into perspective recent developments such as Favre’s use of “we” when discussing the matter with Joe Buck, the visit by a Vikings trainer to Favre to check on his arm, and reports that coach Brad Childress wanted to see Favre participate in some of the offseason workouts.

These details all make much more sense if Favre already is a member of the team.

Ultimately, does it matter?  We pretty much know that if he's healthy enough that he's coming back.

He did choose already.  He had surgery and he's waiting to see if he's healthy enough.  He's said that if he's good to go, then he'll be playing for the Vikings.  If he's not, he won't be playing at all.

Pro Football Talk is inaccurate? Are you saying that just because they share sources with Chris Mortenson?

Favre has signed? Well I guess now the Bears D has a chance to lead the league in takeaways again.

Brad Childress lready ripped my hear out  when he started this whole fiasco. I've come to term with the fact my team is going to suck, but at least it will be amusing to watch Favre crash and burn.

as a loyal Green Bay Packers fan I hope Brett signs with the Vikings... it would be Great to see him in Purple on Lambeau Field.. I hope he wins to.. let's get this Rivalry thing going strong the way it should be. I need just another reason to hate the vikings and this is as good as any. Farve and Sharper together again.

I don't understand people complaing about Favre.  WHY DO YOU CARE???  It's not not YOUR career.  It's not YOUR life.  And it's not YOUR money.  Can you imagine if you left your current employer for another and a group of people started protesting you and writing negative news stories about you???  Jealousy is the only thing that could bring out this level of emotion in people.

First, when ticket money and merchandise money, not to mention tax money in the case of the new Magic arena, fund their salary then yes. We  have a right to complain. Sports are fan based. There would be no Brett Favre if there wasn't fans to watch him. You don't think fans have an impact on how an organization works? Go ask the owner of the Lions abou his uncomfortable town hall meeting at the end of last season. I enjoy football and yes, while I choose to put my money into the Vikings, I consider myself an investor at that point. I damn well am going to voice an opinion when my team is making a stupid, dumbass mistake. Second, if I left my current job to retire then joined another organization only to retire again to come back again and join my rival company? Yeah, I think some nasty things would be said about me as well.

I'll donate my savings. Do I need to sell my car? What contribution do you need from me to make this happen?

Ticket money gets you access to the game.  Merchandise money gets you merchandise.  Tax money creates jobs (although perhaps not enough to pay for itself, but that's a different discussion for a different time, not to mention that stadiums do business with people other than the sports team(s)).  So you're not an investor.  You're a customer.  And customers that continue to support the company while complaining about their product really haven't a leg to stand on.  Are you going to not support the Vikes if they get Favre?  Are you going to boycott the companies that advertiser during the Vikings broadcasts?  Because they all support the team as well.  If so, I salute you.  If not, I have to ask why you would protest a man that's not even on your team yet.

And to your point on the retireing from one company only to emerge with another one:  That's not quite what happened.  Favre never retired.  Favre was going to retire and then decided he wasn't done yet.  He made it real easy for the Packers.  Give him a chance at the starting job (something every player gets) or let him go.  He was even open to a trade, but he had the nerve (!) to have a preference.  People blame Favre for dragging things out, but it was the Packers that dragged it out.  And as far as the Jets are concerned, they handled it correctly.  They were going to go in a different direction with the QB position, so they parted ways and didn't look back.

My major beef with Favre-haters is "why do you care?"  To quote Dr. Phil, "What's it's in it for you?"  What does Favre playing (or not playing) have to do with anything?  Why would you want to impose your will on a life that you have absolutely nothing to do with?  You people don't know Favre.  Most people don't really care about him.  Some claim they are concerned about him tarnishing his legacy.  Is taking the Jets to a 9-7 record really going to tarnish anything?  He finished weak, but he was also hurt.  If the guy is the media whore that people make him out to be, why wasn't he doing it last season in the largest media market in the world?  He gave the same interviews that he gave in Green Bay.  He was on TV alot, but hang that one on the media for wanting to cover the story.  Let the guy flourish or flame.  Whatever happens, it's all for him to decide.
