Broncos QB Kyle Orton entrenched as team's starter
READ MORE:
Broncos fans clamoring for a real position battle at quarterback might be disappointed to learn that Kyle Orton remains firmly entrenched as the team's starter. Orton took all of the work with the starting offense all week and consistently played better than backup Chris Simms. Coach Josh McDaniels made a point Thursday to say Orton did not have a bad game overall against San Francisco, when the quarterback threw three interceptions, just a few "bad decisions."

Quite frankly, I'd rather see Randy Orton start at quarterback than Kyle Orton.

So I guess, in this case, "entrenched" means "we don't have any other choice..."

Bad news for Broncos fans, even though I guess you can't really clamor for Chris Simms, right?  Chris Simms isn't the solution to any problem.

Sorry Broncos fans, but the Broncos will have maaaaaaajor QB issues this season.

Maybe they'll start calling him a gunslinger.  Favre only made about 300 bad decisions too.

Now the Broncos are in the Bears position as we where for....... the entire existance of the Bears.

To be honest. Kyle was a good Quarterback for us. Not a great QB but he did his job when called upon. I wish him all the success in Denver.

at least kyle orton has a future with the US beer drinking team... although he'll probably find a way to mess that up too.

Denver was going to stink anyway....

If he has a future with the U.S. Drinking Team, he should be able to fill in for Jay Cutler!

Another game like the last Friday and I will go find Jake Plummer and drag him back to Denver.

What a great coach Denver picked up, who's man-crush on Cassel ended up with a shotgun wedding to Orton!

Well, Cutler did have a 17-20 record, so maybe they made him look not medicore... i doubt it, but i can hope right? And Goodbye Brandon loved watching you play, hated watching you cry over everything

Chris Simms would be the better choice. Orton nor Simms can help that team with McDaniels as the coach. Simms learned alot here with Jon Gruden and he has the toughness that you want in any leader. I would not call him a solution but I would call him first string in that situation......think both Denver and Tampa Bay ownership groups want their old coaches back?....yeah me too.

That's what I'm hearing now too.  The Chicago news stations are reporting that Simms is outperforming Orton, but if you're McDaniels, how do you sit down Orton when you traded Cutler for him?  McDaniels has put himself in a box.

And to think, , McDaniels states the team is good at quarterback, and do not have the room for a Michael Vick, What does that say for Mcdaniels ability to survey talent?  Absolute genius.

Chris is no Phil but he is better than Orton

Is anyone thinking of the recently released "Jeff Garcia?" He's better than any of Denver's QB's. Entrenched or not, McD needs to get over his man-crush with Orton and make decisions that puts his team in the best position to win...

Let us see how the games play out on Sundays before judging McDaniels based on offseason events. There have been far worse situations in the past that turned out OK.

I totally agree with you.  I'm a long time Bronco fan and  would like to put the off-season as far behind me as possible. So far so good. We're 2-0.

Entrenched means until the teams loses and he looks bad doing it. No way he or Simms are the long-term aswer. McDaniels offense doesn't require a stud athlete or a cannon arm, just an accurate passer that doesn't lose the game. I hope Orton proves me wrong and he's that guy.

Exactly right. If Orton can't deliver, we'll see how long before pressure is put on the coach to make a QB change. Then we get to go from bad to worse. Knowing now what kind of cry-baby Cutler is, I'd rather take my chances on a mediocre QB who at the very least appears to be committed to the team...

In the long run Cutler won't be missed at all, this offense will be good, maybe very good , eventually. Brandstater seems like he could be the guy. What does the team do wins wise until he is ready? I just wish he was the back-up getting some work with the first team in practice. Even if no one in the organization will say it we are in re-build,re-tool re-something mode. So maybe we draft the franchise guy , don't know who will be available next draft. We will see how much improvement we need after the next 5 or 6 games.

Well, if we need improvement, it will be exploited during the next 4 games. Dallas, New England, San Diego and Baltimore. What a killer schedule! This will definitely test their metal. I also agree that Brandstater needs more grooming to be the go-to guy if Orton pulls a "Rex Grossman" on us....

Yeah if we could go 2-2 in those games it would be damn good! Coach McDaniels says he likes Orton, so maybe he's showing more in practice or on film than what we have been seeing. Stretching the field a little and some long completions would be nice. Hard to complain too much at 3-0, right?

You're right. Can't complain when we're 3-0. Let's compare notes after Sunday's game.  Hopefully we'll have something to cheer about...

Think of the positives here. One, we are not in serious trouble like Oakland is with JaRussell stinking up all things that are holy at the QB position. And two, Orton may not have Cutlers guns. but so far he has got the job done and hasnt killed us in the red zone with poorly thrown interceptions.

I'm trying to be positive. It will be interesting to see how Orton does when we need a score late. We have been spoiled with Elway, and Shanahan's high scoring offenses for a long time. It's all about the W's and L's , so we'll see.

If Broncos fans are that upset with Orton at 3-0, they'll probably string up the guy a "mile-high" when they miss the playoffs.

Well, the playoffs are another subject altogether. Most of the NFL world and media alike aren't expecting the Broncos to get to 8-8 let alone the playoffs. So if Orton can get us there, he will have definitely earned the respect of all the naysayers around the league...

And now the real test begins. A string of tough games ahead. But your'e right, we could have the over-paid, under-achieving JaRussell stinkin` up the offense. Go Broncos!!!!

First of  all, I am not a hater of Orton. He aint no John Elway but I've  seen a lot worse than him. He's still rough around the edges but definitely has potential.  Save your haters comment for those that truly do...

Wow with 2 weeks to get ready, as well prepared as both offense and defense have looked, I'm not nearly as afraid of our going to Baltimore as I would have been the last few years. Might even be a fairly easy win, how scary would that be? I have to give Orton a lot of credit, I was a doubter and all he has done is win. A HUGE pay raise and a long term contract at the end of the season does kinda scare me. Maybe I just worry too much!

Yeah, I kind of bashed Orton too. Considering the fact he did very little in Chicago, we were actually kinder than we could have been. As for the game Sunday, Baltimore is desperate with a 3-3 record, they want to win to keep up with Cincy and Pittsburg. Not to mention knocking off one of only 3 unbeaten teams will no doubt boost their morale. However, this is not last year's Broncos. We have a more solid D and Dumervil is a BEAST! I like our chances...GO DENVER!!!!

Actually you don't know much about Orton's time with the Bears: He went 9-2 as a starter for the Bears in Soldier Field. He didn't have squat for receivers...as Cutler is finding out...

Yes you are right ,I wasn't following the Bears last year and had no idea what we were getting. I did hear that he was playing well at the end of last year, also Mcdaniels liked him. So I was hopeful, just had my doubts. I hate to say it but he might be another Jim Kelly get us to the play-offs and never able to win the big one. However it's way too early to predict that, your Q.B. doesn't have to be your best and most talented player as we have seen a few times.

The Broncos have two VERY good things going for them right now:
1)Ryan Clady is absolutely the BEST LT in football.
2) The veteran presence on that defense can incite the whole team.

Yeah our O-line has really come together nice and Dawkins was a huge pick-up! I love that Orton doesn't throw interceptions , but I wish we would take just a couple more shots down field per game. Some easy scores and it might not go down to the wire so often.

9-2..wow...that went under my radar completely. The highlight of his time with Chicago no doubt...I hope he can stay on track in Denver, that's where my interest lies...

I honestly thought this would be the worst year ever as a bronco fan but 6-0 wow and honestly how can you hate the quarterback he may not be flashy but he's very inteligent. With orton i don't cringe like i did with cutler and plummer every time the ball left their hand, orton plays it safe he's thrown one interception this entire year and thats from a last minute hail mary. Although i wont put him on my fantasy team i will take him as the broncos starter.

No flash but fewer mistakes. That's what's important. He's glad to have the kind of  weapons in Denver that he did not have in Chi-town. Today will be a good day to air out some passes...

I have watched Orton in the NFL and was a huge Bears fan for a long time (I stopped liking the Bears so much after the Orton trade fiasco).  Orton was more than a decent NFL quarterback, but often unfairly received the blame (from the game commenters and the Chicago media) for receivers' mistakes like dropped passes and poor route running. Orton was also under a lot of pressure due to an inconsistent running game and a terrible o-line.  I scratched my head when Orton was traded because I realized that there were much larger problems like the receivers and the O-line that should have been addressed before writing off Orton (as the Broncos superior O-line and receivers are allowing Orton even greater success than his 21-12 record at Chicago).

In my mind Chicago misidentified their real problems terribly. For that, I am no longer much of a fan of the Bears. The Denver fans (as I can see above) were just too gullible and read all of the hate from know-nothing commentators like Alex Marvez and others, who blamed Orton for mistakes that weren't really reasonably attributed to Orton.  I won't hold it against the Broncos fans, they were misled.  Now I am one of them.  Go Broncos!
