CC Sabathia Strikes Out 10, Pitches 2nd Straight Complete Game [MLB Wrap-Up]

CC Sabathia Strikes Out 10, Pitches 2nd Straight Complete Game [MLB Wrap-Up] PhotoSome AL pitchers have trouble adjusting to the NL (see: Barry Zito). CC Sabathia isn't one of them. In 3 starts since being traded to the Brewers, Sabathia is now 3-0, after pitching his 2nd straight complete game. Sabathia's importance to the Brewers can't be overstated. He wins, he eats innings, and he can even hit the ball once in a while.

Last night, CC struck out 10, and gave up one run on only 4 hits in a 9-1 win over the Giants. Obviously, if the Brewers are going to make a run at the NL Central, Sabathia will play a huge role.

Angels 11, Red Sox 3
In a possible playoff preview, John Lackey and Garrett Anderson led the Angels to a big win over the Sox. Lackey pitched 7 strong innings, and Anderson went 4-4 with 5 RBI's, which was more than enough to close the door on the Red Sox. Clay Buchholz had his second straight poor outing for the Sox since coming off the DL, giving up 8 runs in 4+ innings.

Reds 5, Mets 2
The Mets' 10-game winning streak was snapped last night, as Bronson Arroyo held the Mets to 2 runs over 8 innings. The Reds scored 4 in the 5th, and that proved to be all they needed. For those of you keeping track at home, Adam Dunn only struck out once. He'll need to step it up if he wants to break 200.

Phillies 4, Marlins 2
Jamie Moyer owns the Marlins. He won today for the 10th straight time against the Fish. Florida's Cody Ross had his 17-game hitting streak snapped, and the Phillies moved into sole possession of first place in the NL East with the win.

Rays 2, Blue Jays 1
Are the Rays back on track? We'll see. If nothing else, they broke their 7 game losing streak. In other news... Cito Gaston is back managing the Blue Jays? I must have been under a rock (or in Japan, or on a ship) when this happened, but congrats to Cito, who also managed the Jays to their 2 WS titles in the early 90's.

In other games...

AL:
Orioles 7, Tigers 4 - Luke Scott led the way with 2 HR's for the O's
Yankees 7, Athletics 1 - Mike Mussina improves to 12-6
Twins 6, Rangers 0 - First time the Rangers have been shut out all year
White Sox 9, Royals 5 - The Sox scored 6 runs in the first inning off of Zack Greinke
Mariners 8, Indians 2 - Indians fans probably wish they had CC back

NL:
Braves 7, Nationals 6 - Brian McCann led the way with 3 RBI
Astros 2, Cubs 1 - Only 4 total hits for the Cubbies in this one
Cardinals 11, Padres 7 - Greg Maddux is 0-5 in his last 13 starts
Rockies 5, Pirates 2 - 3 Rockies (Hawpe, Holliday, Smith) hit HR's in the win
Dodgers 8, Diamondbacks 7 - Garciaparra homers twice, Loney hits one in the 11th for the win

+1 thumbs up

After watching 3 of CC's games, its not hard to see why Indians fans loved the guy.  He's amazing.

Anyone know how many times a guy has pitched complete games in consecutive games (as in back to back games, not starts)?

+1 thumbs upWow... interesting tidbit there... I'm sure it has been a while since anyone else has done it, unless someone else took advantage of the All-Star break like that. Great catch.

I hope LaPorta turns out well for you guys, and I think he will.  Brewer fans were really excited about him and how well he was progressing.
