It was only fitting that Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo surpassed 50,000 career passing yards at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton.
Calvillo completed a 13-yard pass to Kerry Watkins to join a select group of current and future Hall of Famers, including Lancaster, Damon Allen and Danny McManus. Calvillo finished the game with 310 yards for 50,243 in his career, needing just 292 yards to pass Lancaster for third place in CFL history.
“That’s always been in the back of my mind as I’ve been playing the past 14 years,” said Calvillo. “I remember thinking about that number when I was playing here in Hamilton. I think Ron Lancaster was the only one at that particular time. So I just thought it would have been an amazing feat to accomplish that.”
“We have two other guys who have accomplished that, and now I’m the fourth. I’m very excited about that, and I’ve been very fortunate to play with a lot of talent here in Montreal. We all kind of helped one another out and we’ve been able to put up a lot of yards over the years.”
