St. Louis Cardinals Chairman Bill DeWitt recently denied that the club has made left fielder Matt Holliday an offer; however, there are suggestions that the Cardinals discussed a 6-year, $96 million framework with Holliday's agent, Scott Boras, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Boras had been saying he expected to get something closer to Mark Teixeira's most recent contract, which is worth $180 million over eight years.
The Cardinals need a power-hitting presence behind Albert Pujols, and Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said during the regular season that re-signing Holliday would be an offseason priority.
Holliday hit .353 for the Cardinals in 63 games this season, with 13 home runs, 55 RBIs and a .604 slugging percentage.
