Celtics chances for another championship are slim to none
As the Celtics season continues to circle the drain, the answer continues to grow clearer: Fire Danny Ainge.
READ MORE:
You can blame injuries. They're obviously a factor. But when you look at the Boston Celtics, it's really no surprise that their stars are getting hurt. That's what happens when players get old in the NBA.

I said nearly a year ago that Kevin Garnett's injury last year exposed Danny Ainge and the Celtics' lack of depth. This year they've acquired more, with the signing of Rasheed Wallace, but it's still painfully obvious that they're not the championship contending team that many people thought they could (and should) be this year.

Is it time to fire Danny Ainge and find someone who is a little better at actually building a franchise, instead of someone who found a way to pull a rabbit out of his hat once? I believe so.

The Celtics are fine. For starters, you're only behind the Cavs in the East which won't be an issue when the playoffs start.  Secondly, the Lakers have looked like crap against the league's elite.  Having said that, firing Danny Ainge would be the best long term move the Celtics could make.

It is always a fine line to determine when a player is getting past his prime, and when it is time to get some new blood.  Balance that with loyalty (I know I know loyalty is an ancient concept) for what the player has done for the team in the past.  Not a decision I would like to or be good at making.  I would be thinking Garnett and Pierce won a championship for us a few years ago, can't just kick em to the curb like that.

Well, I hear your point...HOWEVER, it's a bit premature to pull the plug on Ainge.  He has done a decent job with bringing the type players that Doc Rivers can manage.  It's unfair to think the Celtics will contend every year.  They have been competitive and in the eastern mix for the past 5 years or so...not many eastern clubs can say that...now, if KG comes back strong, the Celtics are a contender again.  And do not sleep on the addition of Rasheed.  As a Hawk fan, I think the Celtics will scare ANY eastern club in the playoffs (if they are healthy)...they present too many match up problems on both ends of the floor...Perkins, KG, Pierce, Ray and Rondo with Rasheed, Big Baby and House coming off the bench?  Enough said!

man it is hard to imagine having to fire him when the Celtics are so stinking good. But I understand the health/age issues - it is just shocking that he doesn't take notice himself.

If they didn't make the playoffs, then beat it.  The fact remains they're in the East, with a chance for the finals every year.  Garnett is old, but still productive, when healthy.  Pierce still has his shot at the elbow and Ray Allen can still shoot it.    Rondo is a punk but can play plus they have Big Baby and a slew of other role type players.  If they fail again, shouldn't fall on the coach?!

I actually don't think the Celtics are in THAT bad of shape this year. But I'd fire Ainge because our future looks terrible, and there's no easy fix.

The Lakers are headed on a huuuge road trip starting tomorrow...If the Cavs go on a 2-3 game losing streak and the Lakers lose 2-3 while the Celtics win 2-3 in a row...Then the C's would have the best record in the NBA again...They also get the Lakeshow in Boston January 31st at the ned of that Lakers long road trip.

I agree with you that maybe the future is not so bright, but the Celtics are top notch still this season...Just a little banged up.

I was wrong about the first two sentences. Still right about the last one though.
