Chargers Can't Sellout MNF Game vs. Undefeated Division Leader. Now Can We Build A New Stadium?
READ MORE:
Facing a  5-0 Broncos team at Home on Monday Night Football Oct. 19, the 2-2 beginning of the year Super Bowl favorite San Diego Chargers cannot sell enough tickets to avoid the NFL's blackout policy.

This means that once again, Chargers fans in San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles would have to wait until 8:30 p.m Pacific Time to watch the game vs Denver on October 19. I know 8:30  is still early, but it's the principle of the matter.

It's not like the Chargers don't have any stars on the team. Their coach and GM have been around the game for awhile. The stadium has hosted 3 Super Bowls, all of them successful for both the NFL and the city of San Diego. Tourism is a major commodity in America's Finest City... It's always 75 degrees and breezy here. San Diego is definitely a "Party" city with lots of college students.

So what is the problem? Why can't the Chargers sellout Qualcomm even for the big games?

Well, we need to build a new stadium. Problem is...all we hear is talk...We've seen no action

How can you say SD is a better sportstown than LA??? Have you been to LA or SD??? Most fans in SD are LA sports team fans. I also know plenty of folks in SD who don't care about any sports. All you know is from what you see on TV and LA fans being late. If you know LA, you know our traffic sucks due to folks from OTHER cities moving here.

The league is always looking to put a team in L.A.  The Chargers would be one of the easier teams to move there.

The worst part about this whole "1,500 tickets to be sold thing"...Is that all the remaining tickets are singles. (Check Ticketmaster)  S.D. fans and ushers at Qualcomm are pretty relaxed about allowing fans to move near a buddy,  but still...Not too many Bolts fans that I know want to head to the game alone...

I know...It scares me a lot. We have so much land in San Diego to build a new stadium, but we just can't seem to get the Chargers to make a commitment. It sucks right now!

the blackout policy is a stupid policy and you would think the NFL would lift the blackout for right now knowing that people maybe can't agord to go to the games right now

Tickets aren't being sold because the stadium isn't nice enough? Have you seen the hole that is the Meadowlands? They haven't been having any problems with this lately...

The Chargers will not have a sold-out game until Tila Tequila becomes a "Charger Girl."

LA does not want an NFL franchise. They've got USC and UCLA. Enough said!

Being a USC fan, you are right about that. But wouldn't mind a NFL team  in LA. But do think the Chargers do need to stay in SD.

LA can't handle the NFL and will not support it, history tells you that.

I know Detroit may have a terrible team but we will stay in Detroit, not move.

I agree but as a hard-core broncos fan, i would love to go, but money is tight so its tougher for people from denver to buy a ticket to the game, an airplane ticket, and a hotel room.

I agree with you man. Rates are high in S.D. too because we are city fueled by tourism and California budget cuts have messed up everything....If you get a chance, check out Criagslist for cheap tickets ($75-$100 for Plaza and some Field), and there are thousands of places to camp in S.D....Even on the beach. Also, mant times, Homeowners will rent their place for a weekend at cheaper rates than Hotels. The plane ticket from Denver should be cheap too if you hit up a discounted flight. But, I feel you man. I'd like to visit some games in other states, but I'm broke as a joke...

That's one of the dumbest reason that LA can't handle the NFL......it's like saying "Germany will try to take over the world cause history tells it" or "the Lions will never win a Superbowl cause history tells it"

And yet, those are all surprisingly true statements.

The SD Chargers can pay for their own syndicated stadium. Even as individuals- they have more assets (cash) than the entire bankrupt San Diego. Is it so wrong to ask a team to buy their own facility? I'm born and raised San Diegan- and my loyalty goes as far as my dollar. What about the Chargers' loyalty to us the San Diegans? If they can't even muster a AFC league win- then gee folks, this is a No-Brainer.

WTF are you talking about??? The Chargers have won the AFC West Title the last 3 years in a row. Also, are you on CRACK??? Talking about the Chargers "can't even muster an AFC league win?"  Since 2006, the Chargers are 16-3 in AFC WEST Division Battles.

You said , you were born and raised in SD and you're talking about the Chargers' loyalty? You obviously don't even pay attention to the team, why should they pay attention to you?

You really think the Chargers players could pay $350-750 Million Dollars out of their pockets to build a new stadium when their salaries combined are only $105 Million????

Your loyalty goes as far as your dollar? I think you get what you pay for, and that your last comment is a "No-Brainer" meaning you didn't really use your brain when you wrote it.

Ed Roski is building a new state of the art stadium in L.A. County. He is good friends with Alex Spanos (Chargers Owner) and there are rumors that the Chargers will be moving to L.A. once the stadium is completed. Roski is co-owner of the Staples Center (home of the L.A. Lakers & Clippers). It will happen sooner than later....just wait and see..!!

I would suggest a grass roots movement. You and others get together and petition all the people you can get while you still have a team in your town!!

That's a good idea...First Oceanside was made a candidate for the Chargers move then Chula Vista, now the Chargers are playing around with Escondido. We could get plenty of fans together underground  politically, but the Chargers just need to pick the place they would like to move. There's plenty of good land here in SD. The Chargers are merely procrastinating.

You are so right. Pay attention to something you love, but in your case, pay attention to something. It's a No-Brainer.
