Chris Bosh wins lawsuit for chrisbosh.com
Chris Bosh wins the battle for his own name, as well as the names of many other NBA stars... on the internet, at least.
12
Chris Bosh apparently wanted to start his own website, but realized that the domain name "chrisbosh.com" was already taken. Not coincidentally, the man that had taken that domain name had also taken about 800 other sites, including SteveNash.com, CarmeloAnthony.com, AmareStoudemire.com and many others.

Bosh took him to court, and was actually able to get ALL of the domain names, which he plans to give out to their "rightful" owners.

What do you think about this? If someone was ambitious enough and had the foresight to reserve these domain names, should they be compensated for them? On one hand, it seems like blackmail. But on the other hand, no one "owns" a domain name unless they actually go out and get it for themselves. What do you think?

Did this guy have to purchase the rights to the domain names?

Obviously this guy was trying to make money off all 800 names. He is lucky they didn't delve into how much the sites had earned because the athletes in question should have gotten royalties. Sounds similar to what Napster was doing with music

in one way I can see his point on the web ite name but in another way I can't see.  Here just an idea for those NBA players when CB4 gets a hold of you check the web paper out to see who's on there and knock out who you don't know.

In my opinion, its Napster all over again.

if the person who purchased the sites is making any money off those names why would they not be entitled to royalties.Considering he is using the names as a marketing tool

I'd be kind of miffed if I had paid for the names and then someone just came and pulled it out from under me.

This just looks like some guy went out and got all these domain names to make a quick buck, hoping some star would pay him to get the name back. Give it up and get a job. If someone had my name as there domain name and there name wasn't the same I would be pissed. What right does anyone have to anothers full name, sounds like identity theft to me, obviously the courts see it that way as well. The only thing I don't understand is how the court awarded Bosh the other 800 domain names. He shouldn't have the rights to them either.

He plans to give them to the people they "belong" to, free of charge.
