Colts Kicker Adam Vinatieri will miss 6 weeks recovering from surgery on his knee. Former Ravens Kicker Matt Stover was signed by the Colts to replace Vinatieri in the lineup.
Team management raised a couple of eyebrows when they released a kicker, Shane Andrus (who is now employed by the Tampa Bay Bucs) who performed very well in the preseason. Vinatieri took the field on opening day after missing all of training camp recovering from surgery on his right hip.
From watching AV in games, you can tell he wasn't 100%--he missed a couple of easy FGs and nearly missed one more this season. This would be fine for a rookie kicker, but Vinatieri has well-earned the reputation of being a clutch kicker for a reason over the past few years, and not by missing chip shot FGs either.
