Blog Photo - Colts Owner Jim Irsay heads to RehabA few days ago, we shared the news that Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, had been arrested and charged with a DUI and possession of controlled substances.  Irsay spent the night in jail, and upon his release, agreed to enter into Rehab.

The Colts' front office released the following statement:

"Yesterday, Jim Irsay took the first step toward regaining good health. He voluntarily checked into a highly-respected health care facility and is committed to undergoing the treatment and care necessary to help him meet his challenges head-on. Jim, the Irsay family, and the Colts organization are all deeply appreciative of the incredible outpouring of support and compassion from our fans and the Indiana community."
The Colts' organization is of the opinion that there will be no issues with the daily ooperations of the team, and that Irsay's daughter, Carlie Irsay-Gordon will take the helm while her father is in treatment.  The team does not expect Ms. Irsay-Gordon will have much to do, and that the team should be able to pretty much run itself.

Just how long Irsay will be in treatment is unknown.  He has reportedly committed to staying in treatment for as long as is necessary.  Irsay admitted in 2002 that he had developed an addiction to prescription painkillers as a result of surgeries.  He reportedly dealt with those addictions at that time, but this latest arrest only shows that he obviously did not deal with the situation successfully.

We wish him well.
