Cowher, Holmgren and/or Shanahan May Coach Next Year, but it Won't Be in Chicago
It is a fact of life in the NFL that after you lose 45-10, in the year after your team didn't make the playoffs, people whisper about the future.  Usually, that future involves breaking-up with the Head Coach.  Talk Radio in Chicago is all abuzz about that very topic this week.  Let's not kid ourselves; lots of NFL franchises are ready to throw a ton of money at Bill Cowher, Mike Holmgren, and/or Mike Shanahan to clean up their mess.

That process probably won't take place in Chicago during this off-season.  Lovie Smith still has some standing for taking the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2007, although I believe it was a weak Super Bowl team, that represented an average conference that year.  More importantly, Smith has another 2 years and 11 million dollars left on his current contract.  Bears fans know that the McCaskey family does not like to eat contracts.

I expect this to blow over soon, especially since the Bears won the lottery this week (they play Cleveland at home).  It's true that Lovie Smith with be held accountable if the defense continues to struggle.  He took over the play-calling duties this season and came to Chicago as a kind of defensive guru.  This is his defense, and it's been bad.  I don't believe he will be the coach when Jay Cutler brings a Super Bowl Championship back to Chicago, but this will not be Lovie Smith's final year with the Bears either.

The Chargers will seek out one of those 3 coaches as well...

It's been bad, but it's not all his fault.  Look at all the injuries, right?  Some people don't like making excuses, and he'd probably be the first to say that it doesn't matter, but they are really hard to overcome.  It takes a really rare organization that can take injury after injury  (especially to the same positions) and still be competitive

I think Lovie has done a lot for this team and that he deserves to be able to hang around....but this is the NFL so based on that he should get a vote of confidence next week, 3 weeks after that be canned, the org will hire some spare lineman coach, and then that  coach will proceed to hit some of the other coaches in the face with a chair.

lovie is safe for now the bears front office is known for sticking it out with people i.e. rex grossman, this season does however need to improve or next year this will turn into a real problem.

If you a take a look at the head coaches hired after Ditka they have been the same vanilla guys with the same vanilla attitude and same vanilla game plans.  The slogan "we get off the bus running" is old and outdated much like some of our players.  But ownership shys away from coaches who are to edgey and are more of a "yes" man instead of head coach.  Angelo doesn't have a clue and got lucky with Cutler(the jury is still out on this one).  Lovie surrounds himself with coaches who have less of a clue then he has.  Marinelli lost 16 IN A ROW and you hired him to run your defense line???  Matt Ryan last week and Palmer this week didn't have to wash their uniforms cause they never saw the turf.  Only thing that got on their uniforms dirty was the their drool from looking over our defense and it's outdate schemes!  And HE is now callling the defensive plays.  He's the only coach who depends on special teams and defense to score touchdowns in order for them to win.  Now what kind of mentality is that??  And what are you telling your offense?  You had an extra week 2 weeks ago to prepare for ATL & Cincy and the team looks larthagic, lifeless, unprepared and totally out of sync.  Lovie holds no one accountable.  You never see anyone get yanked!  Let me stop my rant, but I am losing my patience!!

And I hate it, we are a major market that should have a better product on the field.  If we don't blow out the Browns(no offense Browns fans) by at least 21 and we wind up in some nail biter something needs to happen.  It's about accountability from coaches to players.

If Singletary goes under .500 this year, I think that he'll be out in SF and they'll be in the Holmgren market.
