Dale Earnhardt Jr. is running out of time to win a Cup title
Is Dale Earnhardt Jr. running out of time to win a Cup title? History says yes.
Dale Jr. may not be that old, but history suggests his window for winning a Cup title has nearly closed.

That is absolutely ridiculous!  Why do people want to put so much on JR?  The man has enough talent and time to win a cup title!

I wouldn't disagree. It's just being pointed out that according to history, he's up against the wall. But then, history was made to be broken. Wait, that's rules, but you get my point.

People put so much pressure on Junior because his fans do.  Not all of his fans do, but far too many of them expect him to win the title every year.  That and he does kind of have an important last name.

Reporters and the media spend so much damn time trying to compare Jr to Sr and he is just NOT his daddy, nor is he trying to be.  Jr is looking at his future outside of racing, just as many drivers are.  Yes, he is getting older.  Maybe he never will win a championship.  I'm sure he wants to win one, I'm sure it's on his mind most every day of racing.  Will his career be a failure if he doesn't?  No, not by a long shot.  I don't think he thinks that way either.  Only the reporters and SOME of his fans think that.  He's doing what he loves to do, and as he gets older, he'll continue doing something because he loves to do it.  I admire him more now than I did when he first burst on to the scene.  He's had to make some really difficult decisions and he's made some really really smart ones.  And I bet HIS will is up to date.

He's certainly good enough to win a championship, but just because he hasn't yet doesn't mean "he's just not that good."  That's the remark a typical Junior hater makes because he doesn't have 76 wins and 7 championships like his father.

It's not his fans, it's more of the people that AREN'T Dale Jr. fans who say he's not a good driver because he's not at the same level as his father.  That is a broken record that needs to be smashed on the floor, people.  Kyle Petty was not Richard.  Davey Allison was not Bobby.  Dale Jarrett was not Ned.  Larry Pearson was not David.  Dale Jr. certainly is NOT Dale Sr., case closed!

I'm not a Junior hater....make a case...how many wins does he have the last four years?  He's not my favorite, but I don't root against him....(Tony I'll root against)....I just don't think he's that good! My opinion, of course..

Oh please, his father even had 2 winless seasons in his career.  That argument weighs about as much as an ounce of feathers.

I listen to NASCAR on SIRIUS every day, and the number of fair weather friends Jr has is a litle ridiculous.  He has all these "expert" fans calling in saying how they think he should be setting up his car, how he should be driving, how he should be getting rid of Tony Jr as his Crew Chief - even one dude who said he should have either Tony Sr or Larry Mac as his Crew Chief.  Those are the "fans" I was referring to, not you or me  or the great fans he has in here.

Still haven't made a case....Livin in Daddy's footsteps isn't going to cut it...why exactly is he good?  I mean you're his number 1 fan here, explain to me why he's got a chance of winning a championship anytime soon....

Glad to find some sensible people here.  Jr is and never will be like his Daddy.  Plain and simple and its a fact that some have come to grasp while others haven't.  The one thing I'm REALLY tired of hearing is that Jr is living off his father's memory and in all reality that just isn't true.

All because Jr doesn't win every year, doesn't mean he's a bad driver.  As a Jr fan, I can say that I was a little disappointed in his first year at Hendrick.  I'm not discrediting his driving ability, I'm just saying that if Jr is running for a dominant team in the sport, then he should be having consistency week in and week out like his Hendrick teammates.  I understand drivers have weak tracks and strong tracks, but sometimes the right equipment just seems to work.

You don't necessarily have to be the most winningest driver in a season to win a championship.  Look at Jimmie Johnson in 2008.  He ranked third behind Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch for most wins.  Carl finished 2nd in the standings even with the most wins.  Just goes to show that consistency pays off.  If Jr finds consistency and lands a few wins here and there, he's a contender.  All I'm saying is that you shouldn't count him out...he'll land that championship...

Valid points...that's what I wanted to hear...and fremont made some good ones too...I just down see all the hype and adoration for Junior...and you're right that he's not living off Sr's memory,,,and he's not a bad driver, I just don't put him in the same class as the top guys...I mean making the Chase isn't really what it's about for good drivers...Good point regarding Jimmie last year as well, but let's not forget that Jimmie also won the Championship the previous two years...Seriously, I hope Dale does well...

Everyone needs to stop arguing because there is always gonna be someone who disagree with "dale Jr. being a good drive." I personally love him, i've loved him for as long as i can remember... some people just think differently and that's there right. Dale Jr is  agreat driver in my opinion he has just had a lot of adversity in the past season I mean just in 2007 season he had how many DNF's due to blown engines? and you can't blame that on Jr. cause it's not like he was driving any harder than Jimmie or Jeff. And 2008 season was a switch to a new team and Dale had some things on his mind, I mean things are different at Hendrick's motorsport virsus DEI so calm down everyone. Dale Jr. isn't the worst driver on the track and sometimes he isn't the greatest either but then again WHO OF THEM IS??

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that's that. If someone wants to say that Jr. is a bad driver let them, but for us DALE JR fans we know in our hearts that it's not true...

and as for my opinion for the billionth time
DALE EARNHARDT IS AWESOME!!!! ;-)

Want a perfect example of a PROVEN driver who went to drive for Rick Hendrick and didn't light the world on fire his first year?  You need look no further than good ol' DW.  I can't count how many times I've said what StuckOnRacin247 has said, that he is not his father and never will be.  If people would stop comparing him to his father like you are by saying "living in daddy's footsteps isn't going to cut it," he'd probably not be scrutinized so much.  Dale Sr. has been dead for 8 years now, but people STILL think that Dale Jr. sucks because he's not his father.  That argument carries no weight whatsoever because they are TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE IN COMMON IS THE LAST NAME!  How long is it going to take before the stupid comparisons to his father stop, when Jr. retires?  It'll probably never stop because everyone thinks he should be a 7-time champion.  I've been a broken record here and I've said that countless times, but for some reason it NEVER seems to sink in for some people.

What crap Junior will never be to old to win a title. He has many more years left. For us true Jr nation fans him winning a title is not everything. I love watching him run and win races. If it is gods will for him to win the championship he will if not so be it. I will love this kid no matter what he does. I like Jr for Jr not because he is Dale srs son. You go junior no matter what Jr nation loves you.

You are wrong you must be a Jr fan turned another fan. Let me tell you something Jr is as good a driver as any driver on the track. Last year was his first year with Hendrick he had alot of learning to do. You watch what he does this year starting with Daytona. Guess you will be kicking yourself at the end of the year. Go junior

I wish I could remember how long it took for people to stop comparing Kyle Petty to his daddy.  I think that's gotta be part of the reason he just won't cut off all that hair.............
