Denny Hamlin went ahead in the closing 12-lap shootout for a victory at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday, holding off Jimmie Johnson at the end to win the Samsung 500.

The shootout came as a result of a late race crash involving a who's who of Nascar, including Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Juan Pablo Montoya and Daytona 500 winner, Jamie McMurray.

Gordon was surprisingly chippy most of the day as he raced Johnson hard all afternoon.  The two drivers even got testy with one another and traded paint in frustration.  Gordon led the most laps on the day but again came up short in his attempt to win, finishing a dismal 31st.

Hamlin on the other hand, was able to take advantage of the late race caution and drove away from the field, only to have Johnson slowly reel him in.  Hamlin held off Johnson and was able to win for the 2nd time in 2010, ironically with both races being won on Monday.
