Overrated?  Absolutely.  But hold on a second Scott, don't let your hatred blind you.  Let's examine this one statement:

"/stats back up he's not that good"

Okay, well, he's a career .316 hitter, he has 2430 hits, 396 doubles, 199 hr's, 965 rbi's, 269 sb's and a career .387 obp.  He has at least 6 years left.  So, he should end up with, well over 3,000 hits, over 500 doubles, over 300 hr's, close to 1,500 rbi's and 400 sb's.  His best year statistically: .349 219 hits, 37 doubles, 9 triples, 24 hr's, 102 rbi's, 19 sb's and 91 walks.  Pretty solid if you ask me.  Especially since he did it out of the #2 hole.  And notice I didn't even mention runs scored (a stat used to inflate Jeter's "greatness").  He has 6 seasons with over 200 hits.  Is he mythologized by the New York media to the point of nausea?  100%.  Is his defense horribly below average, yet rewarded with gold gloves?  Indubitably.  But his numbers tell you he's a damn good hitter.

Who's he fooling?  He's undeniably overrated.  And his cologne sucks.

Those polls are stupid since he came in the top 5 somewhere (dont remember exactly where) in the 'players you'd want to build a team around' poll as well. So apparently he's very overated but lots of people want to build a team around him anyway. Makes tons of sense. I'm goign to put tremendous stock in all of this.....

He may be... but you know what, he doesn't scream at umps, he doesn't fight with his teammates, he appears tp be polite, well mannered, has his head on straight, for the most part keeps his private life private, doesn't go out partying for the media to see and always gives 110%.  Just goes to show that that "good guy stuff" still goes over real big with the fans.

Am I the only one that hears he dates every girl in young Hollywood and leaves them a nice "gift"?

+1 thumbs upYes, in SI's player poll just last week, they asked the same players who they would build a team around. Those players: Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter.

Then, a week later, when asked who is the most overrated, both of them are in the players' top five... o_O

Maybe they don't know the definition of overrated, but either way, players are dumb :P

+1 thumbs upJeter may/may not be overrated. It's in the eyes of the beholder. But he plays the game extremely hard and never takes a game off. I saw a Yankees-Phillies game a few years back. He fouled a pitch off his ankle, and on the very next play, busted it down to first on a ground ball. Most guys would have run 3/4 speed or hardly at all due to the pain. He earned my eternal respect, and this comes from a Red Sox fan.
