He wasn't the best baseball player in the league this year. In fact, he wasn't the best player on his team. Not even close. Yet somehow, he received Sports Illustrated's highest yearly honor for an athlete.

Forget Myron Rolle, a surefire first round NFL draft pick, who passed it all up for the chance to follow his dream of being a Rhodes Scholar and study at Oxford. Forget Usain Bolt, who continued to re-write the record books for short distance runners. Forget Roger Federer, who won 2 of the 4 Majors, and set the all-time record. Kobe Bryant won his post-Shaq championship and an MVP, Anderson Silva became one of the most dominant MMA fighters ever, while CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez became the new regime, leading the Yankees to another championship. Hell, MVP's Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols had historically great years as well.

Yet somehow, Derek Jeter is the Sportsman of the Year. Yeah... that's totally deserved.
