as thrilled as i am that my cats are ranked number 2, i still want to see how they're going to do without jodie meeks in the lineup before thinking they should be ranked in the top 10.

Every time I look at Vitale, makes me sick. Anyway the top 40 makes alot of sense. West Virginia at #9 is not a surprise to me. Ohio State would've been higher than #24 had B.J. Mullin not jump ship. That was a bad decision by Mullin, he should've stayed in school. I hope this dont come back to bite him!

Big 10, what?  Michigan State should be Final Four bound again but Kansas is my favorite to win it all.  They are going to be sick next year.

Those Top 10 teams make sense, but to not have Wisconsin in the Top 40 is a mistake.  Bo Ryan always finds a way to have a good team.

It's amazing how many times Dickie V is WRONG. He is a master at pointing out the obvious however the obvious isnt always right. I do agree tho that KANSAS, MICHIGAN STATE, PURDUE and WEST VIRGINIA are going to be a handful .... and at some point in time you always have to deal with Duke & North Carolina.

North Carolina is going to have most talent and most depth in the their frontcourt then any other team with Ed Davis, Tyler Zeller, The Wear Twins, the young phenom in John Henson and don't forget Deon Thompson. If Larry Drew can become the player Roy expects him to be...watch out for UNC to make another run to the Final Four...oh yea marcus Ginyard is back too

And Scheyer and Singler is not enough to make Duke a #5 team maybe not even a top 10...Its been the same for Duke the last several years...not enough big men and relies to heavy on the 3...Duke will be a contender in the ACC but still has to deal with Carolina for the top spot. Watch out for those Spartans this year as well.

even though i am a duke fan ,without the muscle inside and enough scoring punch in the paint ,the outside shooting and especially the 3 wont carry them very far in the post season and probably not even to no 1 in the acc

Duke has the Plumlee brothers this year, which will give some added size they've lacked recently. Losing Gerald Henderson is the biggest loss for Duke, obviously, but Scheyer and Singler will be tough to defend this year IF the Plumlee brothers can be the presence down low they are expected to be.

Nolan Smith is going to be much better this year and I see him breaking out the same way Henderson did last year. Lance Thomas has also shown signs that he can be that kind of all around glue guy, hard defender, tough rebounder that every team needs.

Then there is Ryan Kelly, 6'10", 220 Forward, 2009 McDonalds All American and the North Carolina HS POY. That's a big get for Duke, and again gives them some size in the post, though he's primarly been a high post player.

I think the Devils will be alright this year and with everything that UNC lost, they should be pretty close, which is what these pre-season rankings show.

Oh, and the biggest thing, no more Greg Paulus. If that isn't addition by subtraction, I don't know what is.

Dickie V needs to change sports. There is no way Kansas is pre-season #1 nor has Ky even played a game to be #2. He needs to take his geritol.

This poll by Dickie V is going to be pretty close to the AP and ESPN polls when they come out. Kentucky definitely deserves to be #2, based on their talent alone.

Even though with UNC losing most of its scoring, the talent that Roy Williams recruits make sure that UNC doesn't lose any step.  They are deep than most people think and should still be the favorites out of the ACC.

I totally agree with you dahizzle. We are still gonna be strong next year. I'm not a hater at all but Kentucky is not a #2 team. Just because they have a new coach and a couple players they have ALOT to prove!!!

At the end of the year watch Dick change his mind and pick Carolina. Razzle Dazzle on that.

Hey at the end of the year, aren't we all allowed to change our minds from what we thought at the beginning of the year?

Happy to see Illinois back up in the top 25.  Webber has done a fantastic job recruiting in the last two seasons.  Now let's see if he can coach them at their talent level.  The U of I is starting to see a sporting resurgence after a few down years.  Ron Zook is doing good with the football, and Webber has been a consistently good coach for basketball.

Believe it or not I'm not that upset that DV has my UConn Huskies at #13 pre-season.  We were lucky to make it to the final four last year as I thought without Dyson we were not better than a Sweet 16 or maybe an Elite 8 team.... look for Dyson to come back from his ACL injury and lead this team.  UConn will surprise many people this year and although they lost Thabet they have another 7 foot shot blocker who wasn't eligible last year and will look to fill Thabet's shoes...... of course time and injuries will tell.....

You really gotta lump me in with this guy? Haven't I shown at least a minor ability to be rational since I've been around here?

The Big Ten seems to have a decent presence in the preseason Top 10. Maybe, just maybe, Purdue will start getting some respect. I know, I know, they have to earn it, however, football team aside, our basketball team should stay in the top 10 all season. At least the top three by Christmas. Followed by a strong presence in conference play and I really believe we have the team that's Final Four material. Next year as well.

Yeah, I'm with ya. We always will prolly have Duke and North Carolina to deal with for quite some time. However, After last season and with this season followed by the next two or three, Purdue will be a team to deal with. GO BOILERS!!!
