ESPN will not change bowl format, will not create a playoff
For those of us clamoring for a playoff, ESPN could care less. They're not changing a thing for a long while.
READ MORE:
Forget about a playoff, at least while the vice president of programming is still at ESPN.

It is about ratings and advertising dollars, as always.  Nothing has changed.

"The next four-year cycle is done, so a playoff is not a consideration at this point," Brown said. "I wouldn't want to see the bowls changed because I don't want to create meaningless games during the regular season. I don't think that would be good for college football."

Meaningless to whom?  Sponsors and Network ratings guys.

The college playoff would be one of the greatest spectacles in sport, but the regular season would be somewhat diluted.

The argument is that a playoff would make the regular season less dramatic since the top 8 or 12 teams would be vying to get in and not just  the top 2

Look at basketball.  Who watches college basketball before the tournament except for die-hard fans?
