Final Event at Yankee Stadium an NHL Game?
1/13/08

Momentum is building for an NHL game to be played at Yankee Stadium next winter, which would likely be the final event held at the ballpark before the Yanks move across the street to their new digs in 2009.

There's also some buzz about the Boston Bruins playing an outdoor game at Fenway Park, with the Red Sox no doubt intrigued by the prospect of one final Zamboni lap for Ted Williams.

Beautiful Idea, I would also like to see other cold weathered cities like Detroit, Calgary, and Toronto host NHL outdoor games.

Theres a lot of talk around Detroit of a game at Comerica Park.  Mike Ilitch owns both the Wings and the Tigers, so getting clearance for use of the park would not be an issue.  If there was to be a game, it sounds like they would try to get a rematch of the Cold War on the same day or weekend, between Michigan and Michigan State.  It would be one heck of an event, and if would bring a whole new meaning to Hockey Day in Michigan.

Funny.  Now that that outdoor game has been played, everyone seems to be in the mix to do it.  There was even an article in San Jose saying that since Sharks President and CEO Greg Jamison was named to the NHL's 11 man executive committee, that there is a decent chance of getting that game in the Bay Area in the near future.  The writer of the article claimed that Gary Bettman has already spoke to Jamison about it.
He also confirmed that Jamison has spoken to the operators of two potential venues.  (Stanford Stadium and Phone Company Park)  Both with positive responses.
