Florida #1 in initial BCS rankings
The BCS rankings are out, and Florida is #1
58

The latest BCS ratings are out, and the defending champion Florida Gators are once again the team to beat. They hold a narrow lead over Alabama for the top spot. The two teams are on a collision course to meet in the SEC Championship game, with the winner going to the National Championship game, assuming both teams win out. Texas will benefit from the subsequent drop by whoever loses in that game, assuming they win out as well. Here's the top 10:

1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. Texas
4. Boise State
5. Cincinnati
6. Iowa
7. USC
8. TCU
9. LSU
10. Miami

God how the country and college football needs Georgia to fire up and beat the freakin Gators in 2 weeks. There is NO WAY Florida has played well enough (or good enough competition) so far this year to deserve the top spot. LSU at #9 is a joke as well.

The 3 teams playing the best ball right now are USC, Iowa and Cincinnati. (and Iowa and USC's schedules are far more impressive than Fla).

Even Boise State deserves to be ahead of Florida. I don't like teams who get by on name value. Now to get ready for Kentucky Basketball season.

I have to admit that I am suprised about Boise at #4.  I know most teams struggled this weekend, but Boise struggled against Tulsa, the same Tulsa team that was shredded by a back up QB for OU, 45-0.  They need to be really impressive to stay near the top.

Really? Then you'll agree with me that UF needs to be really impressive to stay near the top, right? After all, they weren't very impressive vs Arkansas now were they?

The B**S rankings should not be taken seriously right now. It's very early for that. The fact is, they should never be taken seriously no matter how early or late it is.

Wanna know how we'll get a playoff? UF gets upset a couple of times, Bama loses a couple of times, UT loses to A&M and someone else... and USC drops one more game while Boise and Cincy go undefeated. If Boise and Cincy finish 1/2 in the BCS and play for the title, I guarantee we'll have a playoff the very next year. That's what I'm roooting for.

HAHA... Yeah I gotta admit... Troy, College of Charleston, Tennessee, Arkansas (All at home) and road games at woeful Kentucky and an incredibally overrated LSU team...... boy thats an impressive resume'. LMAO.
And if winning is ALL that matters, than why isnt TCU, Boise St, Texas, Cincinnati or Iowa (All undefeated) rated above the Gators? Lord knows all those teams have played better than Florida and against stiffer competition.

I agree with you 100% but it will never happen because even if your scenario came to be.... the BCS would STILL make some lame excuse for a .... say.... Ohio St/Penn St vs Oklahoma/LSU type matchup. As pitiful as it would be. Its all about money and "the good ole boyz" network.

I don't think Florida should be number 1 either.  But you can't compare Arkansas and Tulsa.  Arkansas was a hot team and Tulsa was Tulsa. lol

The Arkansas field goal kicker and the pro-Florida officials, with their phantom pass interference calls against Arkansas should be tied for First in the BCS this week.

Except that I'm going to the Pitt-Cincy game, and I'd kinda like the Panthers to win. But yes, a scenario like the one you described will definitely get some things changed

I'm not sure Florida is a #1 team right now...the AP poll seems to reflect that...I might be slightly biased, but Bama is looking awfully good...

usc lost to washington and barley beat notre dame and they are playing better then florida??? sorry haters but the national championship runs through the SEC. the competiion is no match  compared to weak ass confrences like the big "3" and the pac 10. the top 10 is exactly how it should be. if anything alabama should be number 1 then florida

True.  The SEC is the premier conference.  I have also seen Iowa and they look raelly good.  Much better the the likes of Boise and Cincy.  I'm surprised they didn't come in a little higher.

Even before seeing the AP poll, Bama has just looked like the more impressive team. They've beaten 3 ranked teams compared to Florida's 1, and haven't had any close ones....

Boise and Cincinnati would handle Iowa easily.

It may come down to the SEC championship game to see which one of the two, Florida or Alabama goes on to play for the National Championship...... it's hard to argue against Alabama who I believe is still #1 in the coaches poll, no?

I dont have a problem with the Alabama choice. They have played some good teams and look pretty solid...... but if you cant see that USC, Iowa and Cincinatti are playing better than Fla so far.............. youre either so biased you cant comprehend, havent watched those 3 teams at all or just know nothing about college football............. which one is it?

Unfortunately I agree. BUT.... I NEVER dissed Alabama. They have played a good schedule thus far and look darn good. They deserve their lofty ranking even to I still dont think they could beat those 3 teams I mentioned before right now. They are not the team (or ranking) I have a problem with. Its Florida who has played NOONE and has looked mediocre at best doing so.

Dont be so sure Mark. I have been amazed every week that Iowa looks as good as they do. They just went to Wisconsin and beat the Badgers soundly at Camp Randal which is a shocker during Big Ten season. Ask Joe Paterno or Jim Tressel how difficult that is to do! They still have 2 very difficult road games at Mich St and at Penn St. If they somehow win those 2 games.... there is NO DOUBT they deserve a BCS Championship game. NOONE in the country has a schedule like Iowa this year and they are still 7-0 right now.

That said (and as much as I hate to admit this)......... USC would be my #1 pick right now despite their loss at Washington. I think Alabama, Texas, Boise, Cincinatti, Iowa or any other team in the country right now (and yes that INCLUDES the Gators) would just be overmatched by the Trojans.

I agree Baked. And when you consider Florida's 1 win was against LSU (who I happen to think is extremely overrated.... and was a "fingernail" away from a DB who made a miraculous play at the end of the Mississippi State game to prevent a loss) then how do you consider Florida's play to be best so far?  I dont. I think the Gators have looked average to slightly average compared to other top programs around the country thus far. If it were not for their pre season ranking..... they would be lucky to be in the Top 10 right now.... and I  might even question that!

Iowa has shown mettle and purpose for sure. The little Eleven's only team worth a darn.
Southern Cal has lost at Washington, couldn't put Washington State away, barely won at ND and Ohio State, no way can that be construed as the #1 team in the country. LSU went to Washington and won.
Alabama should be atop the BCS Standings
Texas, Florida, Cincy, then Boise

ok hands down Bama is number one in the nation due to strength of schedule. there defense hasn't allowed a touchdown in the past two weeks and has only gave up 300 total yards to one team. Yeah there offense is questionable, but so far the defense hasn't broke. even with Hightower out, i see alabama having the number one defense in the country. They deserve the number one ranking. Florida is soft this year without there go to guys. Boise State could end up in the BCS championship game if they run the table and florida/alabama/or texas slips.

AGAIN... I think your point of Alabama being #1 is valid. Do I think they are the best team in the country or do I think they would win an Open Tournament style format and be Nat Champs..... NO. But they have played an admirable schedule, are undefeated and have a great defense. I wouldnt argue with there ranking.
My point about USC is that I DO believe if there was an Open Tournament that they would end up on top. And ohhh how I hate to admit that. Dont cofuse the LSU and USC trips to Washington either. Believe me, the USC game meant WAY more to Washington players then the LSU game. It was a conference game and many players on Washington are from California........ just sayin.
BTW.... You still list Florida at 3 in YOUR poll....................... Florida "deserves" to be NO higher than somewhere between 10-15 (IMO) based on who they've played and how they've played. PERIOD!
And one more thing.... Top to Bottom... the Big 10, Pac 10 and Big 12 are every bit as good as the SEC this year. Case in point.... Tennessee losing at home to UCLA and Georgia losing at Oklahoma State. Those are midpack teams from each respective conference and the SEC lost.

I am sorry but this guy is smoking crack. Florida should be no higher then 10-15 what. I will give you that at times we have looked bad and that this years schedule is week but you are forgetting we are the defending champs and we are still undefeated and that counts for a whole lot more then you think. To be the champ you got  to beat the champ and no ones done it yet.

The big 10 is the weakest conference in the BCS, and the Pac 10 would be a close second. The Big 12 and the SEC are about even at the top fallowed by the Big East and the ACC. It doesn't really matter who is #1 between UF and Bama it will be settled in Atlanta and the end of the year, and the winner will go on to the BCS championship game against probably Texas and will win the SEC's fourth straight NCs. It's all over but your crying about it. GO SEC!!!!!! GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!

The "RIDICULOUS" points you make are EXACTLY why the BCS is a joke and will continue to be a joke til a playoff system is in play. What happened last year should have ABSOLUTELY NO bearing on this years polls or who "deserves" to go the Championship game. That is why the BCS poll is not released until mid season so last years influences are "allegedly" supposed to be filtered out. Unfortunately, the polsters continue to be in the pocket of the SEC so its a joke still.
You are correct about 2 points tho.... Florida has been less than impressive AND they have been less than impressive even with a weak schedule. Hardly descriptions one would use to describe the #1 team in the country. But then again, your a Gator fan and get the benefits of the BCS voters so why would you even consider logic and common sense in any of your reasoning.
ALL we hear is how good the SEC is but how is anyone to believe that rhetoric. They dont play anyone. The entire conference has 4... count em.. 4 total games of note outside the conference and they are 2-2 in those games. I do give kudos to Alabama for scheduling Virginia Tech (albeit at a neutral site) and also to Georgia and LSU for going to Oklahoma State and Washington respectively. But that is it......again, hardly the type of resume' worthy of all the hype we hear.

Whatever dude. The one thing we can agree on is the need for a playoff system. i find it funny how three and four years ago I was saying the same thing you are about teams like OSU and USC and The Pac 10 and Big 10 and all I got was the schedule is the schedule and now that the Gators( two NCs in 3 years) and the SEC(3 straight NCs) are on top everyone is finding everything they can to throw at us. Keep throwing and we will keep winning NCs. I have two words for you "jealous much"

Corrected....the Little eleven are AWFUL fugly freaking atrocious this year..I can think of only ONE quality non-conference win this season: Iowa beat Arizona and you know what I'm going back on Iowa showing mettle they beat Northern Iowa by a point and Arkansas State by three: both games were in Iowa City.
Meanwhile there have been losses to Central Michigan, Northern Illinois (who beat Purdue who beat Ohio State!),  Syracuse and Virginia (two teams that are definitely in the bottom 25% of their conferences)

I do think the Big 12 and Pac 10 are almost as strong as the SEC top to bottom, but Alabama and Florida are still beter than the best......wanna know how I know: Miami is a poor man's version of those two teams and they beat Oklahoma. UF and Bama have athletes that no one else can handle...Texas comes close..USC comes close But if they don't both end up with two losses (I highly doubt) it's going to be either UF or Bama in the NC, whether I or you or anyone else likes it or not.

Actually I'll help ya out: Miss State lost to both Houston and Georgia Tech (both in the Top 25 when they played at Starkeville) Auburn beat West Virginia in Auburn.

For all you Gator haters before you start with the refs I agree Doe is a dumb a$$ and got striped before the end zone, but get over it. It did not effect the outcome of the game they still could not get passed the #1 D in the land and we were with out 3 starters.
