Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi’s intensive sauna training experiment to improve conditioning failed in his fight with Sokoudjou.
this sounds like an excuse to me...
to me it sounds like he just went once a week to the sauna (for cutting water weight, weeks before the fight?)
i am guessing that he worked out within the sauna, changing up heat and moisture in the air to try and make it harder but...once a week? and how would it work against him? certainly not from overtraining, if anything he got tired quick in their and quit on his training but that is entirely speculation on my part
regardless, normally if a fighter blames some experimental training program it means they picked it so as not to train as hard, i don't see how it could be detrimental to his performance...again sounds like an excuse
as a side note- changing up the environmental conditions of your training only helps if you maintain it, every trainer knows this and to me it just sounds like he wasn't focused on his training at all and just decided he could train less if he invented some crazy new method
