Hibachi plans to opt out of his current deal next summer and become a free agent. Expect all 30 teams to opt in."To me, it's just a smarter business decision to play next season, opt out and then be able to sign a long-term deal that is going to keep me in one place," said Arenas, who is recovering from left knee surgery and expects to be at full speed in time for training camp in October. "I'm not looking at anything else. It's just business. If something happens where they don't want me or they're going in a different direction, I can look elsewhere. But my intentions are not to leave."
Expect more than just a handful of teams to show interest. If they're smart, expect them all to play their hand. Who wouldn't want Arenas?
He guarantees a happy fan base on every night whether they're playing or not. Arenas markets himself and his team better than any NBA PR department could. He gets it. He lets us inside the mind of an NBA superstar and isn't afraid to just be himself.
There's a good chance he remains in DC, but he'll have his choice of max contract deals as much for his skills on the court as off. Where would you like to see Agent Zero play in '08?
