How will Michael Crabtree perform this year?
Ok, so how do we all think Michael Crabtree will do this year?
So, Michael Crabtree is now officially a (very wealthy) 49er. I'm admittedly pretty excited about this. But then I thought, wait a second. This guy got a broken foot at the end of last year. Then he missed all of training camp and our first four games.

While I doubt he was lounging around eating donuts the last few months, there's no way he'll be ready for the NFL anytime in the next several weeks. He'll probably just be getting his sea legs when the season ends.

So, while I'm excited, I'm suddenly not quite as excited. I don't have real high expectations for Crabtree for this year (but next year, oh yes). But what do you think? Star NFL receivers typically start slow their rookie year, then start to make the leap in year two or three. How will Crabtree fare this year, and long term? And does anyone else think Singletary is going to be all over Crabtree forever now?

He will be a number three receiver this year behind Bruce and Morgan. The 49ers don't have much of a passing game to begin with. I would be surprised if he has over 500 yards this year. I do expect him to make some down field blocks to open up the running game.

I know that Singletary had to put on the PR face w/ the media but I doubt he is one who will put up w/ a spoiled punk. My thoughts are Crabs will have to earn his way onto the field which might take SEVERAL weeks.

Crabtree, is a good addition to the 9ers. I dont expect him to be catching alot of passes tho.

Crabtree doesn't really seem like a Hines Ward kind of blocker to me.

The 49ers are already a decent team, I wouldn't be surprised if they win the NFC WEST, and about Crabtree, the guy just has to click and mesh with the team especcially with the coach.

Singletary won't put up with anyone on the team. He didnt put up with Vernon Davis last year, and he won't put up with any problems Crabtree would bring to the table. I do however, think that if he puts the reps in and learns the playbook, Crabtree will be VERY valuble towards the middle and end of this season. He's got more going for him than any other receiver on this team. You've seen what Vernon Davis has done this year, well Crabtree will make that happen more often. Plus since the shaky QB play that you come to expect from the Niners...Crabtree can also improve that. If they use him on little Bubble Screens or Slants and get some blocking for him, he can pick up the yards with his feet rather than have the QB push it through the air. It's a good thing that he signed now and didnt go back in the draft next year(for the 49ers).

Its funny, I was watching Sportscenter this morning before work and they said that Crabtree only has 3 fewer passes than the 1st receiver taken in the draft - Darrius Heywar-Bey. And he's played 4 less games

My prediction is about 650-700 yards, 3-4 TD's..... and *if* there is some playoff action for SF perhaps a bit more.

I have a feeling Singletary will be pissed about his absence... I also think he'll work Michael Crabtree's butt off. By the end of the season, he should be looking good.

I think he will be pretty good the last 4 or 5 games.  If they rush him out there, he could have a season-ending injury.  I had to regain my focus... I couldn't stop thinking about donuts after you brought them up.

Honestly, I don't think he will contribute much this year at all, and if he does, it will be much later in the season. He has a long way to go to earn the trust and respect of his teammates.
