If Kickers Seem Less Accurate This Year, That's Because They Are

It's definitely felt this year like kickers everywhere are struggling, and it turns out that the numbers back this up. Accuracy has dropped to 80.5% this year, down from an NFL record 84.5% last year. 2009 is on pace to be the biggest one-year drop in field goal accuracy in 33 years. It's not just long range kicks, either as kickers this season are down almost 7% from 30-39 yards.
