If This Man Were Any Stronger He'd Need A Cape & A Secret Identity

When you find that someone is known as the 'Vanila Gorilla' you might imagine he'd be: huge, strong, all of this is true of Blaine Sumner, but he has a big brain, he chose Co. School of Mines because of its academics, and he has a big heart. He holds some national records for powerlifting, for the 'Raw Squat' (Google him). He plays nose tackle, but they use him on offense once & a while for short yardage. He will either plow a path for someone or he'll carry the ball. I think he only had 18-20 yards rushing this year, but he had 5 TD's.

Sumner has the size and strength for the nose at the next level. He's freakishly strong (52 reps! at his Pro Day, 1000 lb. squat, a 635 bench max. 425 hang clean ) and he has surprising quickness. He plays with good leverage, he can hold the point and stone the double team at this level. At 6-feet, 1½-inches and 335 pounds he has pro size. Also he flashes the ability to dominate a couple times a quarter, and it is something to see. When Sumner flips the switch, he is unstoppable. I would put him against any college opponent- SEC, Big X, Big XII, whoever. I will also say that Sumner never gives up on a play. He goes snap to whistle, he's very consistent and reliable. He'll get a look during the 2011 NFL Draft and be hard to cut once in a camp.
