If the Yankees lose to the Angels in this year's ALCS, writer claims that it would be their worst loss ever
Newsday writer claims that if the Yankees lost to the Angels, it would be their worst postseason collapse ever. Ummm... worse than 2004?

Newsday writer Wallace Matthews attempts to make the case that if the Yankees lose this year's ALCS to the Angels, it's their worst collapse in postseason history.

I'm not sure if I'm buying that... especially since their 2004 collapse was THE worst collapse in the history of postseasons in ANY sport.

However, Matthews makes the valid point that the Angels aren't as good as the Red Sox team that came back from down 3-0 to beat the Yankees, and this year's Yankees are much better than the '04 version.

I can't really argue with that, but there's still a huge difference between being up 3-0 and being up 3-1. Huge.

If the game gets rained out tomorrow do the Yankees pitch CC game 6?

For that fan base and the New York writers anything less than winning the World Series is always the worst thing to ever happen to them.  They really lack perspective

Maybe the writer just chooses to forget about 2004. and if you lived in New York Wouldnt you??

It surely would make it the most expensive collapse ever... but i think it's clearly too early to be talking about this. (just like the damn Christmas commercials already on t.v.!! wtf??)

Exactly. Not only were the New York Yankees failtastic, they were failtastic against the hated Boston Red Sox. NOTHING trumps choking to the Sox. NOTHING.

The Yankees lose two games and people are already talking about a collapse. They're going back to New York and they're going to place a royal beatdown on the Angels

I like 2001, when they lost the WS to the DBacks would probably be right there at the top of my list for their worst losses ever. Made the DBacks the fastest team in MLB to ever win a WS!! Poor Wankers fans all biting their finger nails and all!!!

if boston can do it, then the angels can do it too.

Not only were the Yanks up 3-0 in 2004, they almost had the fourth game won if Rivera just closes Boston out!  No way anything could be a bigger collapse than that.

Sox fan to Sox fan... could it ever get better than 2004? I'm honestly not sure that it could. Beating the Yankees like that, after being down 0-3... I really don't know if anything could ever top that.

i think 2004 ranks in the top 5 for the yankees. the other postseason would be the world series. 2001 arizona beating the yanks in the bottom of the 9th, and 1960 world series with pittsburgh beating the yanks also in the bottom of th 9th. when Bill Mazeroski hit the game winning hr.

It may not be the worst (2004 will always be the standard by which all playoff collapses will be judged) but it might be the most satisfying to Yankee haters.

not quite but with all those star players with so much talent it would be a wash out for the new york  since they goal was to win  another championship
