The Indy 500 will still be on ABC, but at least 13 races in 2009 will be televised on Versus. Apparently that will be so for the next 10 years.
Obviously, this is not ideal. Versus has a rep as a joke network. However, it's all not bad. ESPN treated IndyCar like crap. Versus will not. A lot of extras, like qualifying shows and pre-race shows and speciality shows, will be on Versus. IndyCars should be treated very well. The problem is Versus is in 23 million less households, and is perceived as a minor network with minor leagues. The "minor league" perception is already a problem for the IndyCar Series.
Will this work? I really don't know. Obviously I hope so.
