Iowa Hawkeye football is becoming a mess. Now there are problems with Iowa and Kirk Ferenz trying to cover up a rape charge involving five Hawkeye football players. Their program has had an epidemic of run-ins with the law, so this recruit should fit right in.

I have been a die hard IOWA fan all my life....through thick and thin.  But this has been hard to swallow.  I am hoping for the best, but I also hope the appropriate parties get punished.  Here is a couple quick comments I found interesting while surfing the web:

'Instead of saying, "What's wrong with Kirk Ferentz?" I'm saying, "What's wrong with the players?" These kids are 18- to 22-year-old kids, but I think they're men. We have 18- to 22-year-old men who are in Iraq, fighting for our country and making huge decisions every day. These guys know right from wrong, so I think it's more about the juniors and seniors providing leadership. They have to be an extension of what Kirk Ferentz and his staff want."  - Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN

'While the coverage is appropriate from a media perspective … there ought to be a presumption of innocence. I'll tell you, Kirk Ferentz is one of the finest people - forget about coaches. And Sally Mason and Gary Barta … in my view, their values, their judgment, their integrity, is at a high level. So not only do they get the presumption of innocence, they get the presumption of support because of the kind of people they are.'  - Jim Delany, Big Ten commissioner
