A high school sophomore wrestler from Iowa has relinquished any chance he had of winning a state title by forfeiting his first match. The opponent? A freshman girl who was one of two females to make the state tournament for the first time in it's 85 years.
Joel Northrup praised both Cassy Herkelman and Megan Black for their accomplishments but said because of his faith, he felt it was improper for a boy and a girl to engage in a sport that could violent. As a result, Northrup forfeited the match.
